Ubisoft Toronto is one of the largest development studios within Ubisoft, employing talented developers from around the world. We create worlds and tell stories that grip you, inspire you and challenge you. Since opening in 2010, we have shipped innovative game projects on some of Ubisoft’s biggest brands: Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry, Watch Dogs, For Honor and Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell.

Most recently, we launched Far Cry 6, the most ambitious Far Cry game to date, featuring the talented Giancarlo Esposito as Anton Castillo. Our studio has also led the development of the newest game in the Watch Dogs franchise – Watch Dogs: Legion (2020), a stand out for its tech and design work, play as anyone gameplay in an open world, and rich and detailed rendition of a future London. Starlink: Battle for Atlas (2018) was Ubisoft Toronto’s first new IP, using technology that seamlessly blended physical and digital gameplay. Job Description

On being a Model Artist at Ubisoft Toronto

The Model Artist will create the objects in the game, taking the artistic direction and production deadlines into account.

Type of Position: Permanent, full-time

The daily life of a Model Artist at Ubisoft Toronto

  • Be aware of the artistic direction and take it into account when carrying out his/her tasks;
  • Know which objects to produce and adapt the work based on the gameplay;
  • Collaborate in estimating the production time of the objects that must be produced with the immediate supervisor and level artists;
  • Create object placeholders for level design and level art needs;
  • Use his/her expertise to exercise sound judgement so as to respect the ratio between the quality, technical constraints, and their uses in the game;
  • Generate mapping coordinates for his/her objects and apply textures if necessary;
  • Have the artistic director or level artist validate the quality of the objects;
  • Verify the quality of the models once they have been imported into the game and carry out any necessary improvements;
  • Correct the graphic design bugs entered by testers so as to eliminate anomalies;
  • Carry out all other related tasks.
Qualifications

What it takes to make it

  • College diploma in modelling for video games or equivalent training or experience.
  • Minimum 3-5 years’ experience in hard surface modelling, texture, lighting, and image processing or equivalent;
  • Experience with 3DS Max, Zbrush and Photoshop;
  • Experience shipping AAA titles an asset.
