We are currently seeking a talented individual to join the St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Secondary School team. St. Francis School provides a faith-based, Roman Catholic education within the public school system of Yukon Education. Our school sits on the traditional territory of the Kwanlin Dunn First Nation and Ta’an Kwachan Council within the wilderness city of Whitehorse, Yukon. SFACS is an 8-12 school of approximately 460 students, serving a diverse cultural population. Our educational professionals facilitate academic excellence and model life-long learning. We assist students in developing a relationship with Jesus and appreciation of self and others. The uniqueness of each child is celebrated. This 1.0 FTE Temporary position is a teaching position: English Language Learning, Career Life Education, and Physical and Health Education.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

Please clearly demonstrate on your cover letter and resume, how you meet the following qualifications and experience:

  • Bachelor of Education or equivalent;
  • Recent experience teaching English and Social Studies at the secondary or late intermediate level;
  • Recent experience teaching Physical Education at the secondary level;
  • Experience teaching Religion courses is an asset.



DESIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND SUITABILITY:

Candidates should have and may be assessed on their:

  • Strong planning and organizational skills;
  • Ability to plan, organize and manage secondary students in general classroom settings;
  • Ability to adapt curriculum to meet a range of learning styles and abilities;
  • Ability to assess students’ learning and report progress to parents/guardians using Assessment for Learning and Outcome-based grading principles based on a competency based curricular framework;
  • Ability to teach students from a variety of backgrounds who are English Language Learners;
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and collaborative skills working with parents, staff members, consultants, and community agencies;
  • Willingness and ability to participate in the total school program including religious education and social justice initiatives;
  • An appreciation of the cultural diversity of the Yukon with the ability to incorporate and promote this diversity within the faith life of the school community;
  • Knowledge of and sensitivity towards the culture and aspirations of Yukon First Nations and a culturally diverse student population





CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  • Criminal Record/RCMP Check with Vulnerable Sector; to be provided before the first day of employment, dated no more than 3 months prior to your start date
  • Yukon Teacher Certification; learn about the certification process
  • Yukon First Nations 101, to be completed at your first opportunity.
