We are currently seeking a talented individual to join the Hidden Valley Elementary School team as a .55 FTE learning assistant teacher working with neurodiverse students, HVES HVES is a welcoming, connected school community where engaged students develop their sense of identity and belonging. Position: Learning Assistance Teacher

FTE: 0.55 FTE

Start Date: August 20, 2026

End Date: June 12, 2027

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

Please clearly demonstrate on your cover letter and resume, how you meet the following qualifications and experience:

  • Bachelor of Education or equivalent with a focus on special education.
  • Experience developing, implementing, and revising Learning Plans and Behavioral Support Plans to maximize student potential .
  • Experience with individual assessment of literacy development through running records and numeracy assessment in a K-7 school.
  • Experience supporting targeted interventions with students by utilizing diagnostic assessments and scaffold interventions based on data.
  • Experience infusing First Peoples ways of Knowing, Doing and Being into the curriculum to support and instruct students.
  • Experience in the design and implementation of differentiated programming for diverse needs.
  • Experience collaborating in a shared learning environment with other school team members.
  • Additional Teaching Qualifications in Special Education is an asset

  • Willingness and ability to work as a member of a team and to participate in the total school programs and initiatives.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to establish trusting relationships and work with students, parents, staff members, consultants, and administrators.
  • Ability to adapt curriculum to meet the needs of students with neurodiversity’s with a range of learning styles and abilities and to meet the needs of students with Individual Educational Plans.
  • Experience and/or willingness to incorporate the outdoors into the curriculum.
  • A strong commitment to the practice of differentiated instruction and assessment within the classroom to meet student needs.
  • Strong commitment to and proven dedication to support the philosophy, values and beliefs of the school.
  • Knowledge and sensitivity to the culture and aspirations of the First Nations people of Yukon and a culturally diverse student population.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  • Criminal Record/RCMP Check with Vulnerable Sector; to be provided before the first day of employment, dated no more than 3 months prior to your start date
  • Yukon Teacher Certification; learn about the certification process
