We are currently seeking a talented learning assistant teacher to join the team at Christ the King Elementary School. Christ the King Elementary School provides a faith-based, Roman Catholic education within the public school system of Yukon Education. Our school sits on the traditional territory of the Kwanlin Dün First Nation and the Ta’an Kwäch’än Council within the wilderness city of Whitehorse, Yukon. CKES is a K-7 school of approximately 360 students, serving a diverse cultural population. Our educational professionals facilitate academic excellence and model life-long learning. We do this by creating a learning environment where respect, understanding, security, risk-taking, responsibility and reaching out are important values. We believe that each child is unique and special. The values we teach are based on a Catholic philosophy of education. We promote a strong personal relationship with God and respect for the dignity and innate goodness of every person.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

Please clearly demonstrate on your cover letter and resume, how you meet the following qualifications and experience:

  • Bachelor of Education or equivalent.
  • Experience identifying and implementing targeted strength-based literacy and numeracy interventions in a school setting.
  • Experience developing, implementing, and/or revising IEPs (Individual Education Plans) or SSPs (Student Support Plans).
  • Experience using First Peoples ways of Knowing, Doing and Being to support and instruct students.
  • Training and/or experience in trauma responsive educational practices would be an asset

DESIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND SUITABILITY:

The ideal candidate will possess these qualifications, skills, and knowledge, but also demonstrate suitability for the role and organizational culture:

  • Experience teaching or providing culturally and developmentally responsive approaches for positive behavior.
  • Ability to support social emotional learning, positive well-being, and restorative practices in the school setting.
  • Strong planning and organizational skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work positively and collaboratively with students, staff, and the school community.
  • Experience using and integrating technology as part of teaching, learning and assessment.
  • Willingness to support the school mission statement and participate in all religious activities.
  • An appreciation of the cultural diversity of the Yukon with the ability to incorporate and promote this diversity within the faith life of the school community.
  • Knowledge of and sensitivity towards the culture and aspirations of Yukon First Nations and a culturally diverse student population.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

This is a designated position within the Yukon public service which requires the following condition(s) of employment:

  • Criminal Record/RCMP Check with Vulnerable Sector; to be provided before the first day of employment, dated no more than 3 months prior to your start date
  • Yukon Teacher Certification; learn about the certification process
  • Yukon First Nations 101, to be completed at your first opportunity.
  • Class 5 Drivers License or equivalent

  • Preference will be given to the candidate who is a practicing member of the Roman Catholic Church, committed to excellence in Catholic Education.
