F.H. Collins Secondary School is currently seeking a passionate educator to join our dynamic learning community. F.H.C is a dual-track English/French Immersion school serving approximately 780 students in grades 8 through 12. We provide students with a diverse range of academic, athletic performance, outdoor/experiential, trades, and arts programs. We are proud of our strong academic programming, cultural diversity, and commitment to meeting the needs of all learners.
Located in the capital city of Whitehorse, Yukon, F.H.C sits alongside the Yukon River on the traditional territory of the Kwanlin Dün First Nation and Ta’an Kwäch’än Council. QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
Please clearly demonstrate on your cover letter and resume, how you meet the following qualifications and experience:
- Bachelor of Education or equivalent
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience with robotics and/or web design
- Recent classroom experience with differentiated instruction and principles of inclusion
- Recent teaching experience using competency-based instruction and evaluation
- Recent experience with adapting programming for students with diverse learning needs and behavioural challenges within the classroom setting
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience with physical literacies
DESIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND SUITABILITY:
Candidates should have and may be assessed on their:
- Superior classroom management, planning and organizational skills;
- Willingness and ability to teach all relevant Learning Standards and foster an experiential learning philosophy;
- Ability to adapt and modify curriculum to meet a range of learning abilities while incorporating First Nations ways of knowing, doing and being;
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work positively and collaboratively with working with students, parents, school leadership, and the school community
- Ability to differentiate instruction using current competency-based assessment, pedagogy and practice;
- Ability and interest in working to support whole school goals beyond the classroom (e.g., sports, experiential opportunities, clubs).
- A knowledge of and sensitivity to the culture and aspirations of First Nations people of Yukon and a culturally diverse student population
- Experience teaching secondary Phys.ed. an asset
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
- Criminal Record/RCMP Check with Vulnerable Sector; to be provided before the first day of employment, dated no more than 3 months prior to your start date
