We are currently seeking a talented individual to join the Golden Horn Elementary School team. GHES is located within the traditional territories of the Kwanlin Dün First Nation and Ta'an Kwäch'än Council. We value experiential/place based learning on the land and inside the classroom. We strive to use the best research-driven teaching methods that foster learner agency and student-led learning experiences .

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

Please clearly demonstrate on your cover letter and resume, how you meet the following qualifications and experience:

  • Bachelor of Education
  • Elementary classroom teaching experience and/or Teacher Candidate Practicum experience in grades K-7 ;
  • Recent experience teaching music; and/or Teacher Candidate Practicum experience in K-7 in those areas ;
  • Experience with Universal Design for Learning, assessment for, as and of learning with a wide range of abilities and learning.

DESIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND SUITABILITY:

Candidates should have and may be assessed on their:

  • A knowledge of and sensitivity to the culture and aspirations of First Nations people and a culturally diverse student population;
  • Ability to teach visual arts, drama, and music, divided equally into three parts of the year;
  • Ability to collaborate with classroom teachers to design learning experiences that are cross-curricular to other grade-specific subjects;
  • Ability to implement an emergent, inquiry-based curriculum that is centered around student interests;
  • Additional arts qualifications considered an asset;
  • Ability to lead extracurricular arts-based groups (e.g., student choir, instrumental ensembles, drama performances, visual art workshops);
  • Experience and willingness in planning and coordinating school-wide arts events (e.g., concerts, showcases);
  • Experience integrating outdoor education and experiential learning with the arts curriculum;
  • Ability to support social-emotional learning in the classroom;
  • Strong classroom management, planning and organizational skills;
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work positively and collaboratively with students, staff and the school community;



CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  • Criminal Record/RCMP Check with Vulnerable Sector; to be provided before the first day of employment, dated no more than 3 months prior to your start date
  • Yukon Teacher Certification; learn about the certification process
  • Yukon First Nations 101, to be completed at your first opportunity.
