Living In Yukon, Thriving in Life

Our goal is to support all learners in developing the essential skills, knowledge and personal qualities that they need to thrive in life.

Are you passionate about shaping the future of education in the Yukon? The Department of Education is dedicated to providing high-quality education and lifelong learning opportunities for all Yukoners. We are committed to excellence, inclusivity, and innovation in every aspect of our work.

The department plays a crucial role in delivering a wide range of services and supports that span from early learning to adult education and encompass K-12 schooling. We are proud of the diverse team of professionals who collaborate to develop and implement policies, programs and initiatives that promote student success and enhance educational outcomes across the territory.

Elijah Smith Elementary is a welcoming and inclusive K-7 school community in Whitehorse that values relationships, land-based learning, and Yukon First Nations ways of knowing, doing, and being. We believe that all students can thrive when they are seen, supported, and challenged within a caring, culturally responsive environment.

Our Learning Assistance Teacher (LAT) plays a vital leadership role in this work-supporting teachers, Educational Assistants, and families to design meaningful interventions that help every student reach their potential.

The Learning Assistance Teacher provides instructional leadership in inclusive practices across the school. Working collaboratively with classroom teachers, educational assistants, and the school-based team, the LAT supports program design, coordinates individual learning and behaviour plans, and implements evidence-based interventions to help students succeed academically, socially, and emotionally.

This position includes both direct student support and school-wide collaboration to build capacity in literacy, behaviour, and differentiation. The successful candidate will be an educator who is compassionate, reflective, and committed to decolonizing and inclusive education.
