QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

Please clearly demonstrate on your cover letter and resume, how you meet the following qualifications and experience:

  • Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) or equivalent from a recognized institution and valid Yukon Teacher Certification or eligibility to obtain certification.
  • Specialization or coursework in Special Education or Inclusive Education.
  • Teaching experience in an elementary classroom with students performing at a wide range of achievement levels and diverse learning styles, including multiple students with Individual Education Plans, Student Learning Plans, and Behaviour Support Plans.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in developing and implementing Individual Education Plans (IEPs), Student Learning Plans (SLPs), Behaviour Support Plans (BSPs), and Safety Plans.
  • Familiarity with the Neurosequential Model in Education (NME) and Ready to Learn School practices.
  • Training and experience in trauma-responsive educational practices.
  • Demonstrated understanding and application of Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principles to create inclusive, accessible, and flexible learning environments that support diverse student needs.
  • Training and experience with structured literacy programs such as Orton-Gillingham, Barton, Wilson, or Reading Rev is considered a strong asset.
  • Experience using assessment tools (formal and informal) to identify student learning needs and monitor progress toward IEP/SLP goals.
  • Ability to analyze student data to inform instructional decisions and intervention planning.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development in inclusive practices, trauma-informed care, and evidence-based interventions.
  • Demonstrated flexibility, initiative, and organizational skills to effectively manage a dynamic caseload.

DESIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND SUITABILITY:

Candidates should have and may be assessed on their:

  • Knowledge of and sensitivity to the culture and aspirations of Yukon First Nations and a culturally diverse student population.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build trust and strong relationships with students, families, staff, and administrators.
  • Ability to include and support Educational Assistants in the implementation of IEPs, BSPs, and Safety Plans.
  • Strong classroom management skills and the ability to implement social-emotional learning and trauma-informed approaches.
  • Demonstrated commitment to differentiated instruction and assessment practices that meet the needs of all learners.
  • Capacity to adapt curriculum to accommodate a wide range of learning needs and styles, including students on IEPs.
  • Ability to collaborate with a multidisciplinary team including counsellors, speech-language pathologists, and occupational therapists.
  • Willingness to work as part of a professional, collaborative team and to actively support school-wide initiatives and the school growth plan.
  • Proficiency with a variety of educational and assistive technologies.
  • Understanding of positive behaviour supports, preventative practices, resiliency frameworks, restorative justice, and trauma-informed care.
  • Commitment to equity, inclusion, and decolonizing education.
