Assignment: Highschool Generalist
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
Please clearly demonstrate on your cover letter and resume, how you meet the following qualifications and experience:
- Bachelor of Education or equivalent;
- Teaching experience or pre-service practicum teaching placement(s) at Intermediate and Highschool level(s) in classrooms with a wide range of abilities and learning styles;
- Qualifications for, or experience teaching, secondary level course(s) (please specify subject area);
- Experience differentiating and adapting teaching, learning and assessment in classrooms with a wide range of developmental levels;
- Coaching qualifications or experience teaching, coaching or running activities and events for youth ages 10-18 would be an asset;
- Experience teaching French as a second language to a wide variety of grade levels would be an asset;
- Experience and/or knowledge in Special Education, self-regulation, restorative practices, and trauma-informed care would be an asset;
- Class 4 License and First Aid would be an asset
DESIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND SUITABILITY:
Candidates should have and may be assessed on their:
- Experience and enthusiasm for running an athletics program and organizing field trips;
- Knowledge of and sensitivity to the culture and aspirations of Yukon First Nations and a culturally diverse student population;
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively as a member of a professional team and a willingness to participate in the total school program to promote, support, and contribute to the overall school goals and initiatives;
- A philosophy of inclusive education and ability to adapt, modify and implement curriculum to meet the needs of a diverse group of students;
- Strong behaviour management, planning and organizational skills;
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work positively and effectively with students, staff and the school community;
- Willingness to live and work in a small, rural community.
- CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
- Criminal Record/RCMP Check with Vulnerable Sector; to be provided before the first day of employment, dated no more than 3 months prior to your start date
- Yukon Teacher Certification; learn about the certification process
- Yukon First Nations 101 , to be completed at your first opportunity.
