We are currently seeking a talented individual to join the St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Secondary School team. St. Francis School provides a faith-based, Roman Catholic education within the public school system of Yukon Education. Our school sits on the traditional territory of the Kwanlin D ü n First Nation and Ta’an Kwachan Council within the wilderness city of Whitehorse, Yukon. SFACS is a 8-12 school of approximately 460 students, serving a diverse cultural population. Our educational professionals facilitate academic excellence and model life-long learning. We assist students in developing a relationship with Jesus and appreciation of self and others. The uniqueness of each child is celebrated. This 1.0 FTE Permanent position is a 0.5 FTE administration position plus a 0.5 FTE teaching position: Vice Principal and Math teacher

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Please clearly demonstrate on your cover letter and resume, how you meet the following qualifications and experience.
  • Possession of, or coursework towards, a Master’s Degree in Education or equivalent in educational administration, secondary curriculum and/or related areas;
  • Recent experience in educational leadership in a secondary school setting;
  • Experience in assessing and responding to student needs in social /emotional domains, life skills, development, behavior support, threat assessment, and crisis intervention.
  • Experience guiding student behavior using a restorative approach as set out in Yukon Education policy documents;
  • Course work and/or demonstration of experience, understanding, and knowledge of Catholic theology and philosophy of Catholic education;
  • Candidates must fulfill the Catholic eligibility requirements for Catholic Schools.

  • Candidates should have and may be assessed on their:
  • Commitment to model and promote philosophy, values, and lifestyle consistent with the tenants of the Catholic faith;
  • Ability to provide strong faith leadership to students and staff through on-going faith formation for self and staff; providing structured opportunities for staff to develop their abilities to infuse faith into curriculum and pedagogy; and involvement in the broader Catholic community;
  • Committed to the Catholic Mission and Values & Beliefs of the school to help grow the Catholic Faith and learning environment;
  • Ability to integrate Catholic teachings throughout the curriculum; Demonstration of knowledge and understanding of secondary and Catholic curricula in the Yukon;
  • Ability to plan, and assist in, Roman Catholic liturgies is required;
  • A knowledge of, sensitivity to, and willingness to integrate Yukon First Nations ways of knowing, doing and being that supports a culturally diverse student population with the ability to incorporate and promote this diversity within the faith life of the school community.
  • Commitment to high academic standards for all students (including those with exceptionalities) through literacy and numeracy programs which incorporate innovative learning strategies such as social/emotional learning, experiential learning, current evaluation and assessment practices and staff development;
  • Ability to coach staff to teaching excellence; demonstrate an ability to facilitate professional development focused on student learning and assessment;
  • Willingness to be an administrative team member and to participate in the total school program, demonstrating strong interpersonal and team-building skills; and
  • Proven organizational and decision-making skills, demonstrating effective listening, ability to accommodate and to mediate diverse views, to stand up for what is best for the school, stand firm on informed decisions, and follow through;
  • Strong oral and written communication skills including decision-making which demonstrates effective listening skills and strong collaboration with staff and parents;
  • Recent experience teaching in a Catholic learning environment with diverse curriculum needs;
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work as part of an administrative team, maintain and build respectful and positive relationships with students, staff, parents, school council, Department of Education, Catholic Episcopal Corporation, Catholic Education Association Yukon (CEAY) and the community.



CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  • Criminal Record/RCMP Check with Vulnerable Sector; to be provided before the first day of employment, dated no more than 3 months prior to your start date
  • Yukon Teacher Certification; learn about the certification process
  • Yukon First Nations 101 , to be completed at your first opportunity.

  • Candidates who possess qualifications, skills, and personal attributes that are appropriate for the assignment who do not hold a valid teaching certificate, at request, may be granted a letter of permission as a teacher issued in accordance with the Education Act
  • Preference will be given to the candidate who is a practicing member of the Roman Catholic Church, committed to excellence in Catholic Education. To receive preference, it is required to include a current Roman , current and current Baptismal Certificate.
