EAL SUMMER ENRICHMENT PROGRAM LEAD TEACHER (4 POSITIONS)
JULY 2 - JULY 25
PART-TIME TERM
(9:00AM-1:00PM, M-F)
WSD is seeking dynamic and creative English as an Additional Language (EAL) Lead Teachers to join our immersive Summer EAL Program, designed for multilingual students from diverse backgrounds. This program combines language acquisition with experiential learning to build fluency through hands-on, real- world experiences in and outside the classroom.
The EAL Lead teacher will support instructors to deliver engaging and student-centered English instruction that blends project-based learning, field trips, and interactive activities to enhance language fluency and cultural awareness. The ideal candidate is passionate about community building, language education, and excited to create meaningful, context-rich learning opportunities.
Lead teachers will also manage challenges, participant support, parent and community relationships and ensure all administrative tasks are completed. They will also be the primary contact for the Summer School Coordinator. In addition, the lead teacher will work with the NEEDS program to create a seamless transition from morning learning to afternoon learning.
Start Date: July 2, 2025 Salary: $73.21 per hour
Duties:
- Support ELA Program Instructors in their planning and delivery of the daily English lessons aligned with program goals, emphasizing speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills.
- Support the integration of experiential learning into lessons through project -based learning, local excursions, and community-based activities.
- Foster a supportive, inclusive, and engaging learning environment for students of diverse linguistic and cultural backgrounds.
- Collaborate with colleagues to design interdisciplinary and thematic units.
- Supervise and lead off-site learning activities such as museum visits, nature walks, volunteer projects, or local and historical sites.
- Oversee the regular assessment of student progress and the need to provide timely feedback to students, families, and schools.
- Communicate effectively with program coordinator and contribute to end-of-session evaluations and reports.
- Ensure that student voice and lived experiences are included in instructions and planning.
- Manitoba Permanent Teaching Certificate will be considered as an asset.
- Permanent teachers and support staff at Winnipeg School Division will be considered an asset
- Experience working with EAL children and youth ages 5-19
- Knowledge and experience of current Newcomer Support Services and community organizations that support EAL students in the Winnipeg School Division.
- Knowledge of current literacy, numeracy and STEM programming in Winnipeg School Division schools
- Experience managing students and adults through incidents of conflict
- Strong planning skills and experience with different types of student assessment
- Strong communication, time management and organizational skills
- Bilingual in English and any other language will be an asset
- Knowledge and understanding of diversity, equity and inclusion
