The Winnipeg School Division (WSD) is Manitoba's largest and most diverse public school division with approximately 30,000 students and 6000 dedicated employees. We are seeking a strategic and collaborative leader to join our senior management team as Director of People, Culture, and Equity.

The role of Director of People, Culture, and Equity is central to our mission of fostering a thriving, inclusive, and supportive workplace that enables employees to deliver the highest quality learning environments for students.

As Director of People, Culture, and Equity you will lead initiatives that promote employee development, wellness, and engagement for all employee unions-including teaching staff, educational assistants and clerical support. You will be instrumental in making WSD the employer of choice in education.

This position plays a key role in advancing the goals of WSD's Strategic Plan, with a particular focus on creating the conditions for “the good life”-a holistic vision of well-being, belonging, and purpose-for all employees and students.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Strategic Leadership & Culture Building
  • Champion a culture of excellence, inclusion, and continuous improvement.
  • Align people strategies with WSD goals to enhance student learning outcomes.
  • Embed the principles of the Strategic Plan into all aspects of employee support and development.
  • Equity, Diversity, Inclusion & Reconciliation
  • Lead efforts to build an equitable, diverse, and inclusive workforce.
  • Promote understanding and integration of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission's 94 Calls to Action across all levels of the organization.
  • Ensure employees are supported in developing cultural competency and reconciliation- focused practices.
  • Staff Development & Wellness
  • Design and implement comprehensive employment development and wellness programs.
  • Foster optimal conditions for professional growth and personal well-being.
  • Support initiatives that contribute to “the good life” for all employees.
  • Leadership Training & Support
  • Develop foundational leadership and management training for WSD leaders.
  • Provide coaching and support to build leadership capacity across WSD.
  • Policy Modernization & Compliance
  • Lead the review and modernization of Human Resources policies and procedures related to employees.
  • Ensure compliance with legislation while streamlining workflows for efficiency.
  • Employer Branding & Engagement
  • Position WSD as a top employer through innovative recruitment and retention strategies.
  • Promote WSD engagement and recognition initiatives that reflect our values and strategic priorities.
Start Date: TBD Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in a senior Human Resources Management role, preferably in education or public sector or sustained educational leadership experience.
  • Strong background in organizational development, change management, and policy development.
  • Demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, and reconciliation.
  • Deep understanding of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission's Calls to Action and their application in educational settings.
  • Familiarity with strategic planning and its implementation in large organizations.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills.
  • Relevant post-secondary education in Human Resources Management, Organizational Development, or related field.
