ACTING SERVICE DIRECTOR OF LIBRARY SUPPORT SERVICES

FULL TIME - TERM

June 16, 2025 to August 3, 2026

Library Support Services provides access to learning resources in print, digital, media and music formats to Division staff; supports school library staff and administrators in building strong, resource- rich Library Learning Commons; assists with technical library services for schools in a central facility; and maintains the Division library software management system and other web services.

Under the direction and supervision of the Assistant Superintendent of Deeper Learning and Rigour, the Service Director of Library Support Services is responsible for leading and managing Library Support Services; planning, administering and coordinating Division-wide library services initiatives, including the WSD Career Lab and Red River College Library Technician Trainee program; collaborating and pro-actively building partnerships with Division administration, including Professional Support Services, Indigenous Education, Student Support Services, Clinical Support Services staff and departments; directly supports all school library staff and administrators in building cultures, environments, and practices that ensure that all students of Winnipeg School Division experience belonging, engagement and meaningful learning that will improve their life prospects and ensure they flourish in their catchment school.

Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:

  • Administers and coordinates the selection, acquisition, cataloguing and housing of
print and digital materials.
  • Plans, implements and evaluates the overall goals for LSS, including effective management of the LSS operating budget, and staffing resources.
  • Leads LSS staff in providing client-centred public service and collection management designed to be highly responsive to the current needs of the WSD community.
  • Supervises, directs, and evaluates the work of LSS staff within a team environment.
  • Directly supports school library staff and administrators in building strong, resource-rich and inclusive library learning commons that meet the needs of 21st century learning.
  • In partnership with WSD Career Lab and Red River College, leads the Technician Trainee program
  • Plans, administers and coordinates Division-wide library technology and library services initiatives.
  • Collaborates and pro-actively builds partnerships with Division administration, including Professional Support Services, Indigenous Education, Inclusion Support Services, Clinical Support Services staff and departments to enhance the services and effectiveness of LSS.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor of Education is required.
  • Master of Library and Information Science degree from an ALA-accredited institution, or acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience is an asset.
  • Supervisory and administrative experience with strong teamwork and interpersonal skills is an asset.
  • Knowledge of and experience with evaluating and selecting digital and print resources, as well as library promotion and marketing is preferred.
  • Knowledge of WSD Library software and WSD Library Learning Commons practices is preferred.
  • Knowledge of current trends in library service to schools is preferred
  • Passion for children's and youth literature
  • An advocate for school libraries and dedication to library work through a commitment to anti-racism and truth and reconciliation.
  • Ability to communicate in French is an asset.
