Health Unit Clerk

Golden Door Geriatric Centre is seeking compassionate, organized and detailed-oriented Health Unit Clerk to join our team. Under the supervision of Care Coordinators and Team Leaders, the Health Unit Clerk supports the interdisciplinary healthcare team by coordinating resident admissions, processing physician orders, maintaining resident records, preparing clinical documentation, and ensuring effective communication within the team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Process and transcribe physician orders accurately and maintain clinical documentation.
  • Manage resident admissions, including preparation of admission packages and resident records.
  • Maintain and update MARs, TARs, charts, care records, and other clinical documentation.
  • Coordinate appointments, laboratory requisitions, and resident information updates.
  • Support communication among physicians, nursing staff, pharmacy, allied health professionals, residents, and families.
  • Ensure resident records are accurate, organized, confidential, and up to date.
  • Prepare reports, maintain tracking systems, and provide administrative support to the care team.
  • Work collaboratively with nurses and other healthcare professionals to support quality resident care.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Completion of a recognized Health Unit Clerk Certificate Program.
  • Previous experience in geriatric or long-term care is preferred.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in healthcare documentation, data entry, and electronic records systems.
  • Demonstrated compassion, professionalism, and respect for seniors.
  • Physical ability to perform job-related duties as required.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience in geriatric care within a healthcare setting.

Conditions of Employment:
This unionized position requires a current satisfactory Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search, Child Abuse Registry Check, and Adult Abuse Registry Check as conditions of employment. A security check must be obtained within six months prior to employment.
