- Acts as a professional practice leader to facilitate excellence in client centered care
- Provides leadership support to the Regional Directors/Managers in areas of professional practice,
- Provides or coordinates education opportunities as assigned and to include orientation, annual reviews, skills, updates, preceptor management and specialized education as requested at the provincial or local level
- Support and assists staff with development of individual learning plans
- Work as a nurse in the community, if required
- Assesses practice education needs and develops plans to meet recognized needs
- Develops practice education programs in collaboration with other educators and National Practice Team to ensure a standardized approach to practice education
- Evaluates the effectiveness of practice education programs and revises content as appropriate
- Evaluates clinical practices in relation to regulated and unregulated provider practice standards, relevant legislation and professional practice regulations
- Acts as a Practice Expert for Nursing and unregulated care provider standards of care and behavior
- Promotes excellence in clinical care delivery through evidence based practice decision making and a spirit of inquiry
- Contributes to the development, delivery and evaluation of regional/national practice education
- Achieves performance targets by contributing to the development and implementation of quality improvement activities.
- Supports the business and professional service delivery goals and corporate centre by working collaboratively with Program Managers to ensure cost effective nursing and home support services and programs are provided to the individuals, families and the communities served.
- Works with Corporate Service (e.g. IT, Finance, Occupational Health & Safety, P&O, and Practice, Quality & Risk etc) to maximize front line care delivery.
- Develops relationships, partnerships and alliances internally within the organization and externally to the community to ensure currency, and relevancy of practice education material
- May be required to participate on local, regional or national team or committees as requested (e.g. Quality Care and Service, Joint Occupational Health and Safety, Accreditation, Recruitment and Retention).
- Promotes a learning environment for staff professional development
- Provides, monitors, analyzes, maintains and distributes information to numerous parties in a variety of formats.
- Action plans are actively in place to support meeting operational, practice, and education-related targets
- Reporting to internal customers is accurate, analyzed, timely and meaningful
- Ensures regular and proactive dialogue amongst the workplace parties to ensure ongoing success of individuals and sites with respect to compensation case management including return to work and stay at work programs. This may involve;
- Engaging/initiating communications with staff and their managers on early intervention strategies to keep workers at work fully or in an accommodated capacity
- Strong working knowledge of all relevant collective agreements and applies same in daily decision making /advisory activities
- Regular liaison/collaboration with employees and their managers
- Contributes to the principles of customer-focused service and continuous quality improvement
- Functions and reports in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety legislation, regulations, and VON policies and procedures.
- Adheres to the VON standards for conduct and behaviour and upholds VON's Core Values
- Bachelor\u2019s Degree in Nursing (BScN, BN) is required; Masters is an asset
- Current registration with the College of Nurses for the province
- CNA Certification in Community Nursing or Hospice Palliative Care is an asset
- Certificate/diploma in Adult Education is an asset
- Minimum 5 years of recent, relevant clinical nursing experience in a homecare setting
- Experience in developing education programs and support materials
- Experience in providing clinical education utilizing adult education principles and evidence based practice
- Proficiency in Windows OS and MS Office Suite programs and other healthcare specific technologies
- Demonstrated commitment to working in an environment with high confidentiality and discretion
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Familiarity with healthcare specific technology such as Electronic Health Record (EHR)
- Understanding of clinical workflows, documentation, and informatics systems
- Able to work both independently and within a team
- Strong organizational skills with an ability to prioritize and multi-task
- Must demonstrate strong attention to detail
- Ability to adjust to rapidly changing priorities
- Creative thinking skills
- Maintains the level of competencies and skills required
- Adapts to changes in the role by acquiring the appropriate skills and abilities
- Must have access to a personal vehicle for business use and possess both a current driver\u2019s license and proof of vehicle insurance.
- Willingness to travel to neighboring communities.
- Current criminal background check including a vulnerable sector screen.
- Must be able to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

Working conditions and physical demands: This role requires a detail-oriented approach in a dynamic environment, with physical activity including lifting, carrying (using proper techniques), bending, reaching, kneeling, and other movements that emphasize good body mechanics. Individuals in the role are required to walk, sit, stand, and climb stairs throughout the day, with some tasks requiring fine hand movements.
