Job Summary

Reporting to the Program Manager, and working within the context of a family-child centered care model, and the vision and values of the Vancouver Coastal Health, the position provides expertise in speech language services to support services to clients, their families and the public. Provides clinical supervision and direction and is responsible for the overall management and clinical direction of the Program. Also, provides leadership in the development, implementation and evaluation of speech language services/projects/teaching programs. Assists in addressing local and regional speech language standards and policies and oversees central intake consultation services. Consults, confers and collaborates with interdisciplinary team members, educational resources and other health care professionals/providers to achieve excellence in health services and education.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Current full registration as a Speech Language Pathologist with the College of Health and Care Professionals of BC (CHCPBC) supplemented with a minimum of five (5) years’ recent, related experience including two (2) years in an administrative/supervisory position or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Valid BC Drivers License. Local area travel requires the use of a personal vehicle.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Knowledge of the principles, practices, and procedures of speech language pathology with an emphasis on family-child centred practice and in parent/caregiver training.
  • Knowledge of evidence -based service delivery models/clinical practice related to children.
  • Knowledge of community development and health promotion principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of research process and methodology.
  • Ability to analyze issues and problem solve.
  • Ability to supervise, direct, review work and facilitate professional development of speech language pathologists and allied health professionals.
  • Ability to function as a leader, facilitator, consultant and team member.
  • Ability to plan, organize and prioritize work.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in written and oral form.
  • Ability to be sensitive, tactful and diplomatic with clients and public.
  • Ability to evaluate and develop programs, policies, procedures and processes.
  • Ability to develop health educational materials.
  • Ability to facilitate groups and educational sessions.
  • Ability to identify community resources appropriate to client needs.
  • Ability to use related equipment and computer programs.
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
