Job Summary

Come work as a Safety Associate with Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH)!

Vancouver Coastal Health is looking for a Safety Associate to join the Safety and Prevention team. The Safety Associate will primarily support administrative tasks of the Safety team, with the opportunity to learn about and contribute to occupational hygiene initiatives, in addition to supporting the quality management system of VCH's personal protective equipment (PPE) library. This can include reviewing program documents, supporting maitenance of quality management systems, reaching out to sites to book training, and providing support on large projects as needed. As a Safety Associate with Vancouver Coastal Health you will:

  • Work with members of the Employee Safety team and designated clients area to ensure the integration of services that promote occupational health and safety planning, implementation, and sustainment.
  • Propose and conduct initial incident assessments, quality reviews, and annual Occupational Health and Safety program reviews.
  • Coordinate and support the development of education/training sessions.
  • Apply, monitor and provide support to Employee Safety programs.
  • Act as initial resource for Employee Safety and designated program area.
Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Diploma in Occupation Health and Safety from a recognized education institution.
  • One (1) to three (3) years’ recent, related experience in an occupational health and safety setting.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience.

Knowledge & Abilities

  • Demonstrated knowledge of OH&S principles and practices.
  • Demonstrated knowledge in managing disability cases.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of current trends in disability management and related best practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to use a variety of word processing, spreadsheet, database and presentation software packages at an advanced level.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing including the ability to respond politely and diplomatically to both internal and external inquiries.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills to provide effective administrative support.
  • Demonstrated ability to demonstrate tact and discretion in preparing, disclosing, and handling information of a confidential and/or sensitive nature.
  • Demonstrated time management skills to assist other in meeting deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to record and transcribe minutes of meetings.
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
