Job Description:

Primary Purpose

The Research Support Assistant plays a crucial role in supporting the research activities at the Centre for Ocular Research & Education (CORE). This position involves assisting with research studies by dispensing study products according to protocol requirements and providing administrative and customer service support to CORE partners, both internally and externally.

This position is contingent upon funding.

Key Accountabilities

Management of Study Products

  • Acquire necessary study products and ensure proper reconciliation and disposal of these items at the end of each study, in compliance with study protocols and University guidelines.
  • Dispense study materials and provide instructions to participants on their use and care, adhering to each individual study protocol. Maintain accurate logs of dispensed supplies and keep a documented inventory of all available study materials.
  • Collaborate with study monitors during scheduled visits to review accountability procedures and verify records.
  • Provide masked study product assignment information as needed, such as for adverse event reports.
  • Successfully complete all required CORE, sponsor, and study-specific training sessions.

Administration

  • Deliver exceptional customer service support to CORE partners through various platforms and events.
  • Support the management of clinical studies conducted remotely, including the printing, packaging & shipping of supplies, and the development of training materials, as necessary.
  • Provide administrative support to CORE, including scheduling appointments, handling day-to-day office tasks, assisting with marketing and social media efforts, and supporting recruitment events.
  • Participate in recruitment efforts for CORE.
  • Assist the Data Team with data entry tasks as assigned.
  • Treat and manage participant information with confidentiality and sensitivity, in accordance with clinical trial regulations and University policies.
  • Support the completion of additional administrative tasks as requested by the CORE Administrator or Head of Clinical Research.

Required Qualifications

Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

Experience

  • Experience in a vision or health care setting is preferred.
  • Knowledge of optometric terminology and vision care is a definite asset.
  • Experience in regulatory affairs and compliance is an asset.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Demonstrated ability to operate with a high degree of confidentiality using discretionary judgment and excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to present detailed instructions and information in a clear, concise manner.
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative in a fast-paced environment with multiple deadlines and conflicting requests.
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Proven ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office suite and the willingness to become proficient in the use of in-house databases as required.
