General Purpose

The Department of Clinical Studies seeks an experienced Statistical Technician in support of veterinary and comparative research. The Statistical Technician supports faculty researchers, research staff, and undergraduate and graduate students with administrative and technical aspects of experimental design, data processing, statistical analyses, and data modelling for research involving biological samples, animal patients, clinical trials, and other fields related to veterinary medicine and education.

Duties and Responsibilities

Reporting to the Chair or their designate, the Statistical Technician will perform in critical areas of responsibility, including:

  • Scheduling and managing timelines and workflows to ensure the timely delivery of research support services within the department.
  • Assisting with experimental, prospective, or other study design, including sample size estimation
  • Mentorship and support of graduate and undergraduate students in experimental design, sample size calculation, data collection and statistical analysis
  • Supporting research grant writing as it pertains to methods of study design and data analysis
  • Data management, security and compliance
  • Statistical analysis, presentation and interpretation
  • Assisting with publication drafting and report writing as it pertains to data analysis methods and results
  • Staying up to date with methodological developments in veterinary biostatistics, AI/machine learning, large data set analyses, and related data analysis fields
  • Working with other department research technicians to assist them when available.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in a related field; Statistical Methods, Data Analytics or equivalent training and experience required for a variety of experimental designs, and the analysis of biological and other data sets, along with 12 to 24 months of experince. A combination of education and experince may be considered.
  • We seek an individual passionate about research and working collaboratively with faculty and students.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work independently and collaboratively are essential.
  • Practical experience in data analysis is required for this demanding role.
  • The successful individual must have excellent organizational and time management skills.

The incumbent will be expected to work a 35-hour workweek.
