General Purpose

Reporting to the Associate Director of Student Wellness Services, the Sexual and Gender-Based Violence Support Coordinator provides front-line support to student survivors on a wide range of concerns stemming from first hand experiences of sexual and gender based violence and its impact on functioning in the post-secondary context as a student.

Duties and Responsibilites

The coordinator will be a resource on campus for knowledge and best practices for survivors of sexual and gender based violence and will foster collaborations across university departments and in the community to provide the best service possible for students impacted by sexual and gender based violence.

Taking a survivor-centred and trauma informed approach, the coordinator is the first point of contact for disclosures, conducts screening/triage around sexual and gender based violence cases, assesses and manages risk, responds to urgent/crisis phone calls and walk in visits related to sexual or gender based violence, providing education and resources, coordinates requests for accommodations, and provides emotional and practical support for students navigating various resources on and off campus.

Requirements

  • Masters level in Social Work or equivalent preferred
  • 3 years’ experience working with survivors of sexual violence from a trauma-informed perspective and knowledge of best practices in sexual violence education and training, including a strong understanding of program efficacy in sexual violence prevention; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience working from an anti-oppressive framework and attenuating to the ways in which race, gender, sexuality, class, and other aspects of one's identity impacts and intersects survivors’ experiences. Understanding of the needs of traditionally underserved communities.
  • Demonstrated expertise in crisis intervention and risk assessment and management.
  • Experience working with university-aged young adults
  • Knowledge of community- based resources
  • Knowledge of relevant Ontario legislation including Human Rights Code, Sexual Violence and Misconduct Policy Act, FIPPA, PHIPPA. Also, knowledge of judicial processes including administrative law, criminal law, and Victims Services is an asset
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Strong written, oral and presentation skills;
  • Flexible work hours, some occasional evenings

The target hiring salary for this position is minimum and up to 96% of midpoint for the salary grade.
