General Purpose

Duties and Responsibilities
Reporting to the Manager, Global Learning and Innovation, the Program Manager, English Language, Communication and Culture (ELCC) provides expertise in the development and delivery of a portfolio of programs based around English language, communication and culture learning experiences. This includes the core English Language Certificate Program (ELCP), various university degree access programs (Integrated Admission Pathway, International Guaranteed Admission Pathway), short-term seasonal programming and customized programming. The Program Manager ensures academic rigor, sound pedagogy, appropriate delivery modalities and high quality in the design, development and delivery of programs that meet the needs of English language learners and international partners, responding to student and partner feedback as required.
The Program Manager works with the Manager, Global Learning and Innovation to identify new programming that meets emerging market needs and to optimize current programming, and with the Curriculum Coordinator(s) to develop and revise the programming. The Program Manager oversees a team of English language teachers and a Curriculum Coordinator, including hiring, onboarding, scheduling, ongoing performance management and regular staff meetings. The Program Manager manages the programming using comprehensive business plans (including all personnel expenses and infrastructure overhead costs) to recover all costs associated with the development and delivery as well as provide a margin on the programming.
Requirements
The University recognizes that no individual will have the following skills and experience in equal measure, but the qualifications below will be used to assess candidate:
- A Master’s degree in English language teaching, linguistics, applied linguistics, adult learning, or a related field
- TESL Ontario or TESL Canada accreditation, or similar, is strongly preferred
- At least 4 years of related experience in English language teaching, international education, higher education teaching and learning, communication and culture, adult education, continuing studies, education technology and lifelong learning initiatives, or related fields, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Understanding of course design (online, in-person, hybrid), curriculum development, and adult learning strategies.
- Familiarity with D2L Brightspace, other educational technologies, and Modern Campus Extended Education (formerly Destiny).
- Entrepreneurial, ability to identify opportunities and implement them using strong project management foundations.
- Demonstrated skill in business development, financial planning, budgeting and proposal writing.
- Ability to influence across multiple stakeholders with various needs and agendas.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Interpersonal and cross-cultural communication skills.
- Strong organizational and project management skills with the ability to balance competing priorities and deadlines.
- Organizational and time management skills and ability to multi-task
- Ability to work well under pressure during peak periods and in an environment where many things are happening at once, all requiring immediate attention.
- Fluency in additional languages is a strong asset.
