Duties and Responsibilities

Reporting to the MBS Practicum Coordinator, Department of Biomedical Sciences, the Master’s of Biomedical Sciences (MBS) Skills Based Lab Instructor will primarily be responsible for developing and stewarding the in-house training of course work Master’s students in molecular and cellular biology techniques. The incumbent will also be reponsible for managing external and internal professional relationships related to specific areas of focus within our graduate program (i.e. Reproductive Biology, Neuroscience, Cardiology, Regenerative Medicine, etc). The Lab Instructor will help identify, develop, and approve standard operating procedures for all techniques to be delivered, working closing with faculty subject matter experts. The Lab Instructor will facilitate the practicum training to ensure adherence to standard operating procedures to optimize the student experience; facilitate all regulatory approvals required between the students and UofG.

In addition, the Lab Instructor will develop strategic and tactical outreach and networking plans that identify and target both internal and external students, and industry to enhance and strengthen the program. Working with the faculty advisor, the incumbent will customize and deliver presentations highlighting the strengths and unique characteristics of the program for internal and external audiences while acting as a primary point of contact for the Skills Based Coursework MBS program at the Ontario Veterinary College. The Lab Instructor will also organize and manage in-house practicum training for this specific area of focus as required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field; Biological Research Technology Diploma; along with 2-3 years experience. A combination of education and experience may be considered for the role
  • Advanced communication, interpersonal and presentation skill
  • Demonstrated ability to train graduate students in molecular and cellular biology techniques
  • Ability to establish and maintain steward professional relationships in a multi-stakeholder environment
  • Management skills with the ability to lead, encourage and set high performance standards for self and others
  • Ability to successfully manage multiple priorities
  • Knowledge of experiential learning opportunities is an asset for the position
