General Purpose
Fantastic opportunity for an experienced professional in academic quality assurance to expand their experience in the space by joining the University of Guelph and contribute to upholding the institution’s commitment to excellence in academic programs. Under the Office of the Associate Vice President Academic (AVPA) portfolio, the Office of Quality Assurance guides new undergraduate program development; the cyclical review of graduate and undergraduate programs and manages ongoing and annual curriculum changes in undergraduate, associate diploma curriculum and University of Guelph-Humber curriculum.
Duties and Responsibilities
Reporting to the Director, Academic Programs and Policy, the Manager, Curriculum and Academic Quality Assurance is a key position within a client-focussed team, who is committed to providing expert advice on matters related to undergraduate programs and curriculum, academic policy and quality assurance. The Manager is responsible for an array of management duties related to curriculum at the University of Guelph, at Guelph-Humber, and at the Ridgetown campus. The Manager engages leadership support of the critical and ongoing processes of curriculum renewal, innovation, and strategic positioning of the undergraduate programs; is responsible for the management of administrative matters related to existing undergraduate and diploma curricula and their delivery; supports the Director in the assessment and accountability for the quality of graduate and undergraduate programs; supports the work of the unit in the various complex governance processes associated with developing new programs and new curricula; and represents the office on various governance committees. The Manager liaises with faculty, staff, Associate Deans and Chairs, and external visitors in this work and supports the Director to stimulate and foster curriculum innovations; and the renewal of existing academic programs to meet the institution’s goals as expressed in major planning documents.
Requirements
To be considered for this role, candidates should have:
- Master’s Degree in Education, Governance, Curriculum, Program Administration plus 3-5 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience;
- Demonstrated ability to develop positive relationships and work collaboratively and transparently with senior academics and administrative leaders in support of curriculum innovation and development, and academic strategic planning;
- Experience in project management, business analysis and academic planning;
- Thorough and detailed knowledge of the principles of curriculum development;
- Extensive knowledge of academic policies and procedures;
- Thorough and detailed understanding of the university and college systems in Ontario and Canada including academic governance processes and the Ministry of Colleges, Universities, Research Excellence and Security legislative and regulatory framework;
- Strong interpersonal skills, especially tact and diplomacy to interact effectively with administrators, faculty, staff, and students;
- Proven ability to manage confidential and/or sensitive information and exercise professionalism and discretion in handling such information;
- Strong analytical skills; combined with demonstrated problem solving and conflict resolution skills;
- Excellent oral and written communication skills;
- A high degree of initiative, flexibility, and the ability to work independently and under pressure;
- Demonstrated proficiency in computer applications and software (MS Office) and databases; familiarity with student information systems would be an asset.

The target hiring salary for this position is minimum and up to 96% of midpoint for the salary grade.
