General Purpose
Reporting to the Associate Registrar, Admission Services, the Manager, Marketing and Communications (MMC) leads Admission Services through a rapidly evolving communications environment in higher education. They are responsible for the execution of strategic marketing and communications plans, ensuring the effective positioning of the University, appropriate research, high-quality strategic positioning, and messaging, and safeguarding the University of Guelph’s reputation. The incumbent plays a crucial role in the University reaching its institutional goals in recruitment, enrolment and retention.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Direct operational leadership of the Admission Services communications team, delivering a variety of integrated communications solutions, and providing consultation and direction to multiple internal stakeholders.
- Assess and develop the communications and marketing needs to meet the changing landscape of higher education recruitment, admission and enrolment.
- Provide counsel on a regular basis on market trends and translating customer needs and business requirements.
- Lead stakeholder engagement, including the provision of high quality and responsive communications; develop approaches for engagement collaboration and innovation that creates improved value for the University of Guelph.
- Contribute to high-impact, integrated university-wide projects, pursuing and following through with projects deemed to be of strategic importance to the University as a whole.
- Define and create a communications strategy (including a social media strategy) for target audiences including, but not limited to Ontario secondary school, national secondary school, international secondary school.
- Develop an annual stakeholder engagement plan.
- Plan and lead the implementation of integrated stakeholder engagement programs and initiatives.
- Accountable for the effective direction of Admission Services’ (AS) print and digital communications and marketing pieces, as well as websites and social media, including strategic planning, the management of the institutional profile and reputation, quality control, and tender and bid submission and review.
- Direct, mobilize, counsel staff: lead the communications team, responsible for performance management, mentoring and professional development.
Requirements
- An Undergraduate degree in English, Communications, Journalism or a related program
- 3-4 years of prior experience with digital strategy development and implementation, communications, marketing, branding, social media and CRM platforms. An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
- Expertise in digital communications within higher education.
- Strong understanding and implementation of data reporting, specifically from search engine optimization analytics, Google Analytics, individual social media platforms’ analytics, and how that data informs strategies.
- Experience with direction of digital marketing campaigns, development of effective marketing strategies and tactics.
- Strong understanding of diversity of audience needs and how each sector requires contrasting communications tactics.
- Expertise in print industry: an understanding of print production needs and requirements; knowledge of industry standards and its impact on cost effective options and alternatives.

The target hiring salary for this position is minimum and up to 96% of midpoint for the salary grade.
