General Purpose

Fantastic opportunity for an experienced academic quality assurance professional to assist in ensuring the quality of and innovating the curriculum at the University of Guelph-Humber.

The Curriculum and Academic Quality Specialist supports the cyclical review and curriculum renewal of programs offered at the University of Guelph-Humber. Working closely with academic and administrative leaders, the Specialist coordinates six program reviews and facilitates curriculum enhancements to ensure academic quality and alignment with institutional goals.

Reporting to the Director, Academic Programs and Policy, in the Office of Quality Assurance, the incumbent provides dedicated support for the cyclical program reviews associated with Guelph-Humber programs. The incumbent collaborates with Academic Chairs and University of Guelph-Humber leadership to facilitate curriculum renewal opportunities arising from the cyclical program review process.

Located at the University of Guelph-Humber, the Curriculum and Academic Quality Specialist is responsible for developing, maintaining, and executing workflow processes for the University of Guelph-Humber programs, including major modifications to existing programs. The incumbent monitors current and emerging developments in curriculum, assessment, new program development, and other innovations in the post-secondary sector, and provides timely, expert advice to the Director and University of Guelph-Humber leadership in support of the cyclical program review process and the renewal of existing academic programs.

Duties and Responsibilities

The incumbent will:

  • provide expert advice on cyclical program review, curriculum design, learning outcomes, and program assessment strategies

  • coordinate and support program teams in curriculum renewal and innovation

  • support the Director of the Office of Quality Assurance in the assessment and accountability for program quality

  • ensure compliance with internal (IQAP) and external (OUCQA) quality assurance standards

Requirements

  • A Master’s Degree in education, governance, curriculum, or program administration, plus 4 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Thorough and detailed knowledge of the principles of curriculum development and the university and college systems in Ontario and Canada, including academic governance processes and the Ministry of Colleges, Universities, Research Excellence and Security (MCURES) legislative and regulatory framework

  • Demonstrated ability to work with senior academics and administrative leaders in support of curriculum innovation and development as well as academic strategic planning

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Strong interpersonal skills, including tact and diplomacy to interact effectively with administrators, faculty, staff, and students

  • Proven project management skills

  • Strong analytical skills to analyze data, draw comparisons, and identify trends

  • A high degree of initiative, flexibility, and the ability to work independently and under pressure

  • Proficiency with word processing, email, and Microsoft Teams

Desirable Experience

  • Familiarity with College and University academic quality assurance bodies and requirements (OUCQA and OCQAS)

  • Familiarity with curriculum systems, including the Curriculum Inventory Management software

  • Awareness of key issues and initiatives within Ontario's postsecondary educational system
