The Department of Psychology at the University of Guelph is currently seeking a part-time, contract Therapist to work with children and adolescents between the ages of 8 and 15, and their parents, as part of a clinical research project. Reporting to the principal investigator of the project, the successful candidate will act as a member of a dynamic outpatient team and be responsible for the provision of short-term individual therapy, case management, and completion of required documentation. Clinical services will be provided in-person.
The successful candidate will receive training in an evidence-based treatment program called MATCH-ADTC (Modular Approach to Treatment for Children with Anxiety, Depression, Trauma, or Conduct Problems) and will participate in ongoing group consultation on the use of MATCH-ADTC.
The successful candidate will be expected to assist in the program’s research activities and will support the inter-professional team and community outreach initiatives. Depending on qualifications, they may also be asked to support students who are also part of the research project and delivering the MATCH intervention. The candidate will support a workplace that embraces diversity, encourages teamwork, and complies with all applicable and regulatory requirements. The position may require some flexibility in work hours, likely with some evening hours to accommodate families’ schedules.
Qualifications:
The successful candidate will possess:
- a Master’s degree in psychology, social work, occupational therapy, or nursing, combined with 1- 3 years of post-graduate direct clinical experience in a mental health treatment setting.
- Registered membership in good standing in a regulated health care discipline and must show proof of registration with the respective College (e.g. College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO), Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW), College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario (COTO), College of Psychologists of Ontario (CPO), or College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO)).
- Clinical experience with children and/or adolescents is required, along with experience with cognitive behavioural therapy, behavioral parent training, and other evidence-based treatments.
Key skills include the ability to implement structured, manualized interventions effectively with children and adolescents whose presentations include anxiety, depression, and/or challenging behaviours. The ability to provide culturally competent service to clients of diverse ethno racial and cultural backgrounds is also essential. The successful candidate will possess strong interpersonal skills, be able to work independently and within a team, and have the ability to communicate effectively. Computer skills, including word processing, electronic communication and workload measures are essential.
