The Ontario Veterinary College (OVC) invites applications for the position of Chair, Department of Biomedical Sciences from current tenured faculty at the University of Guelph. The anticipated start date for this appointment is September 1, 2026.

The Department of Biomedical Sciences is a leader in interdisciplinary and translational biomedical research and education that bridges fundamental discovery with clinical application in both human and animal populations. The department prepares its students for impactful, rewarding, in-demand careers in the biomedical sciences field.

The department is responsible for delivering undergraduate, professional, and advanced education and research training in seven main research areas: Reproductive Biology and Development, Cellular and Molecular Basis of Health and Disease, Biomedical Pharmacology and Toxicology, Neuroscience, Cancer Biology, Cardiovascular Physiology, and Regenerative Medicine and Stem Cell Biology. In addition to providing courses in the DVM and BSc programs, the Department offers course-based Masters (MBS), MSc, and PhD programs in each of the departmental discipline fields.

The Chair is responsible for the effective, efficient, and collegial operation of the department, providing administrative leadership, while fostering academic excellence in the department’s research and teaching programs. Human and financial resource management and the ability to engage faculty, staff, and students in developing and implementing new initiatives are important components of the role. The Chair will lead and model an inclusive workplace culture, integrating IEDI principles in policy and practice.

The ideal candidate will be a dynamic, collaborative, and compassionate leader with a vision that sparks innovation in research, learning, and teaching within the department. They will be a successful educator and researcher: applicants should possess a PhD and demonstrate strength in teaching and research related to the department’s programs and activities. The preferred candidate should exhibit strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills and possess the ability to build solid relationships both within the University of Guelph and with external groups.

The appointment will be for a five-year term, with the possibility of renewal for another five years.
