Faculty Positions Position Title / Rank: Assistant or Associate Professor in Laboratory Animal Medicine College: Ontario Veterinary College Department: Pathobiology Date Posted: December 18, 2023 Deadline: February 13, 2024 or until a suitable candidate is found Please reference AD #23-69 Position Description: The Department of Pathobiology at the University of Guelph invites applications for a tenure-track position in Laboratory Animal Medicine at the Assistant or Associate Professor level. The successful candidate will have a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine or equivalent veterinary degree in addition to a PhD or similar advanced graduate training in Laboratory Animal Medicine. Other preferred qualifications include a minimum of two years of relevant post-doctoral experience, a proven record of research excellence evident in high-quality publications and demonstrated potential to establish a competitive independent research program. The latter should be suitable for mentoring undergraduate and graduate students as well as post-doctoral researchers in the area of Laboratory Animal Medicine. Board certification or eligibility to be certified by the American College of Laboratory Animal Medicine (ACLAM) or European College of Laboratory Animal Medicine (ECLAM) will be considered an asset, as will experience teaching laboratory animal medicine. The Department of Pathobiology at the Ontario Veterinary College has a very strong legacy of excellence in veterinary laboratory animal medicine. The incoming candidate will join a strong group of researchers working with laboratory animals both within the Department of Pathobiology and elsewhere in the Ontario Veterinary College and the University of Guelph. The incumbent will teach DVM students, including final year DVM students, and graduate students, including trainees in applied programs, and will also contribute to other undergraduate teaching. The Department of Pathobiology has recognized strengths in Bacteriology, Immunology, Virology, Parasitology, Veterinary Infectious Diseases, Cancer Biology, Mammalian and Comparative Pathology, and One Health. The Department, together with the Animal Health Laboratory, has a state-of-the-art, 13 000 square meter building housing well-equipped, modern research and diagnostic laboratories. The College has a large veterinary teaching hospital (Health Sciences Centre), the Animal Cancer Centre, and several initiatives related to translational medicine. In addition, researchers have access to nearby research stations suitable for conducting studies in a variety of domestic and laboratory animals, and a newly built, on-campus, level-2 containment facility. Salary and rank are negotiable and commensurate with experience and qualifications.
