Position Description:
The Ontario Veterinary College, University of Guelph, invites applications for the position of Assistant Dean, Academic Collaborations (AD-AC). This position is open to tenured faculty at OVC holding a DVM degree (or equivalent) and experience teaching within the DVM Program. Clinical experience in primary care settings and/or with first opinion cases will be seen as an asset. This administrative appointment will support OVC’s academic priorities in collaborative programming within the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine Program, by fostering institutional partnerships across academic, industry, and government sectors.
Reporting to the Dean, the Assistant Dean, Academic Collaborations will assist the Associate Dean, Students & Academic in identifying needs and opportunities for collaborative programs with external partners and will be responsible for planning and implementation of such partnership working in consultation with OVC Department Chairs, faculty, and staff. Initial focus will be predominantly on the Collaborative DVM Program, but the scope of work will be expanded to include other distributed model collaborations in response to evolving curricular needs of the DVM Program. A Position Profile has been created to fully outline expectations and responsibilities.
The ideal candidate will have a solid understanding of curriculum design, assessment, and learning outcomes. They will have an appreciation for the current and future skills, knowledge, and attributes needed for success in the veterinary profession. Further, they will demonstrate an understanding of the pedagogical approaches required to provide a supportive and intellectually stimulating learning environment that promotes academic success and learner well-being. They will be aware of challenges and opportunities facing the veterinary healthcare system, especially in areas that are under-serviced.
The ideal candidate will be an exceptional, dynamic, and innovative leader who embraces change. They will have strong interpersonal skills and emotional intelligence with outstanding management and communication skills, as well as an ability to inspire faculty, staff, and students. The Assistant Dean will be expected to lead community engagement and sustain positive relationships with all stakeholders, both inside and outside the College as it relates to collaborative programs.
The appointment will be for a four-year term, with the possibility of renewal for another four years after a successful review.
