Position summary
This is a newly created Nurse Practitioner (NP) position within the Medical Gastrointestinal (GI) site group. The role involves managing patients with various GI cancers, including gastroesophageal, colorectal, pancreatic, and hepatobiliary cancers. The patient population encompasses individuals who are newly diagnosed as well as those undergoing cancer therapy. As part of the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre-an academic institution-many patients participate in clinical trials.
The NP will primarily see patients in the outpatient clinic setting. Occasionally, the role may include consulting on hospitalized patients and patients in the outpatient systemic therapy unit to provide clinical expertise and support seamless inpatient-to-outpatient transitions.
The NP will work in parallel with a multidisciplinary team, initially assisting in clinics, with opportunities to independently identify needs or gaps in care that can be managed autonomously over time. The successful candidate will require a level of comfort with ambiguity while establishing role clarity within the site group.
GI outpatient clinics operate daily, with full and half-day clinics each week. Initially, the NP will assist alongside the team in six half-day clinics weekly, with the potential to gradually increase their workload as experience and confidence develop.
