Bentley Colony School is located approximately 24 km west of Lacombe (about 10 km south of Gull Lake). The school currently serves five Hutterite colony students across Grades 4, 6, and 7. All students are English as an Additional Language (EAL) learners, with German as their primary language and most often spoken in the home and colony community. Instruction follows Alberta’s provincial curriculum and is delivered through a range of print-based resources and programming, as the use of technology with students is not permitted within the colony school setting.

The selection committee is seeking a dynamic teacher-leader with demonstrated experience and success in a multi-grade classroom environment. In addition to instructional responsibilities, the colony school principal oversees day-to-day school operations and is responsible for making budgetary decisions about the funding allocated from the school division.



Assignment:

  • Full-time Colony School Teacher with Colony Principal responsibilities
  • Grades ranging from K-9
  • Working as a colony school teacher and principal at Bentley Colony School
  • In addition to the teacher's salary, the Colony Principal will receive an additional allowance as per the ATA Collective Agreement
  • Duties to commence as soon as possible, or as agreed upon with the successful candidate



    Qualifications:

    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
    • Ability to teach the Alberta Curriculum in a multi-graded setting while integrating Hutterite culture and lifestyle into learning
    • Effective classroom management
    • Ability to work collaboratively with colony leadership and the German teacher
    • Willingness to collaborate with the Colony Schools Supervisor as well as other colony teachers within the division and Zone 4
    • Assessment literate
    • Ability to differentiate instruction to utilize varied instructional strategies to meet a wide range of individual needs for English as an Additional Language learners
    • Commitment to ongoing professional growth
    • Experience teaching in a multi-grade classroom and/or colony school setting would be considered an asset.
