Job Description:

Job Summary

The Senior Manager, Clinical Informatics provides operational leadership for the optimization, sustainment, and adoption of SHN’s clinical information systems, with a primary focus on Epic.

Reporting to the Director, Clinical Information Systems, this role leads teams responsible for Epic system configuration, optimization, training, super user enablement, business analysis, and project delivery. The position supports SHN in a post‑implementation, steady‑state environment and ensures alignment with the Digital Services roadmap.

The Senior Manager, Clinical Informatics represents SHN at ENHANCE Ontario (EO) forums and supports the execution of regional initiatives at the local level.

Key Responsibilities

Operational Leadership

  • Lead and manage Clinical Informatics staff, including clinical informatics specialists, trainers, coordinators, and students
  • Establish and manage operational priorities aligned with organizational strategic priorities and Digital Services roadmaps
  • Provide oversight of clinical informatics ticket intake, triage, prioritization, and escalation in partnership with Digital Services and ENHANCE
  • Oversee performance management, staff development, and workload planning
  • Promote a culture of accountability, service excellence, and continuous improvement

Clinical System Optimization & Epic Build

  • Lead workflow optimization initiatives across inpatient, ambulatory, and ancillary domains
  • Oversee local Epic build, configuration, testing, and deployment activities
  • Ensure system changes are clinically validated and aligned with best practices and regional standards
  • Partner with clinical and operational leaders to identify and prioritize optimization opportunities

Training, Adoption & Super User Program

  • Provide leadership for end‑user training strategies and refresher education
  • Lead and sustain the Clinical Informatics Super User Program
  • Monitor system adoption and incorporate feedback into ongoing optimization and training plans

Business Analysis & Clinical Engagement

  • Ensure high‑quality clinical and business analysis to support system enhancements
  • Translate clinical and operational needs into functional and technical requirements
  • Act as a trusted informatics partner to clinical and operational stakeholders

Project Management & Delivery

  • Lead Clinical Informatics‑led initiatives from planning through execution
  • Partner with the Project Management Office (PMO), Enterprise Transformation Office (ETO) and Digital Services on governance and delivery
  • Support effective change management, documentation, and communication

Regional & Provincial Alignment

  • Represent SHN at ENHANCE Ontario tables and working groups
  • Coordinate local readiness and execution of regional initiatives
  • Ensure regional standards and priorities are incorporated into local operations

Qualifications

Required

  • Undergraduate degree in a health discipline, informatics, information systems, or a related field
  • 5+ years of progressive experience in clinical informatics or healthcare IT
  • Demonstrated people management and operational leadership experience
  • Hands‑on experience with Epic build, optimization, or support in an acute care environment
  • Strong understanding of clinical workflows, change management, and digital adoption

Preferred

  • Master’s degree
  • Epic certification(s)
  • Experience participating in regional Epic collaboratives
  • ITIL certification
