Job Description:
Position Overview:
Working as a member of the inter-professional team, the Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) will provide specialized comprehensive services in Mental Health to the Adult Inpatient units & Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) at the Centenary Hospital. The scope of the role will include nursing expertise in Adult Mental Health.
This position is ideal for an RPN with a passion for working in Mental Health across the ages. The successful candidate will also participate in program development, data collection and evaluation.
Responsibilities:
- Facilitating the overall functioning of the inpatient units
- Ensuring the provision of care in the Adult program is consistent with the standards of multidisciplinary regulating bodies and best practice
- Coordinate care in collaboration with the patient/family, the multidisciplinary team, and the community
- Active participation and facilitation of regular team meetings and case conferences
- Assist in the development of staff competencies and best practice standards
- Coordinate patient flow in and out of the program, liaise with internal departments and external facilities
- Ensure appropriate scheduling and safe staffing levels
- Competent nursing assessments, psycho education and treatment plans
- Administration of medications
- Individual, group and family therapy
- Coordinating patient care in collaboration with the patient/ family, members of the Interdisciplinary team, and other community providers
Requirements:
- Current certification with the College of Nurses of Ontario as Registered Practical Nurse in good standing
- RPN Designation
- 1-year Mental Health experience or equivalent
- Sound working knowledge of hospital functions and values, as well as current trends in nursing and health care
- Comprehensive clinical knowledge of physical and mental health assessments, diagnosis and treatments
- Comprehensive knowledge of community resources for adults
- Demonstrated ability to exercise sound independent judgement and leadership skills
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- Strong interpersonal, organizational and critical thinking skills
- Ability to work well within an inter-professional team and to foster effective working relationships
- Current CPI and BCLS certification
- Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to SHN’s comprehensive safety programs and practices including staff, patient and environmental safety and participate in regular in-service in this area
- Adequate availability as per the collective agreement
- Strong work ethic and commitment is required
- Demonstrated high standards of work outputs
- Highly punctual
- Demonstrated professionalism and reliability
