Job Description:
Position Overview:
Reporting to the Manager of Adult Outpatient, Child and Adolescent Programs and Crisis Services, the successful candidate will assume a role practicing in a large community based program for clients with severe mental illness.
The Recreational Therapist will be responsible for the assessment, treatment, education and recreation participation to allow clients to achieve optimal health and promote the highest quality of function.
As a member of a multidisciplinary team, the successful candidate will be responsible for the development and implementation of innovative groups and therapeutic programming and which will include community integration.
Requirements:
• Bachelor of Arts degree in Therapeutic Recreation from a recognized University, or health-related undergraduate degree and post graduate certificate in Therapeutic Recreation
• Member of a recognized Therapeutic Recreation Association preferred
• Competent to perform CPR at a Basic Cardiac Life Support level
• Previous working experience with individuals living with mental health and substance use challenges
• Skills in assessment of individual and group needs of persons with severe mental illness
• Proven skills in group development and leadership
• Proven skills in program development and evaluation
• Management of Aggressive Behaviour course from a recognized program
• Evidence of sound organizational, prioritization and critical thinking skills
• Excellent communication, documentation, and interpersonal skills with the ability to work well with patients, families, staff and the community.
• Exposure to Lean principles, an understanding of methodologies and tools and a commitment to the use of these in support of providing the best healthcare experience possible to our patients
• Demonstrates and understanding of and commitment to SHN’s comprehensive safety programs and practices.
• Demonstrated pattern of good attendance and work record
