Job Description:
Job Summary
Reporting to the Food Service Supervisor, the Patient Food Service Representative provides patient- focus care in the preparation and assembly of patient meal trays and nourishment. Adhere to scheduled work routine, maintain infection control protocols, food safety and public health standards.
Requirements/Qualifications
- Food Handler’s Certificate - Required
- One-year patient/resident food experience is an asset
- High school diploma
Shift and Schedule
- Days, afternoons and evenings
- Must be available to work all rotating shifts including statutory holidays and weekends as needed - subject to the Collective Agreement
Job Responsibilities
The PFSR will be responsible for but not limited to:
- Prepare and assemble patient meal trays following diet guidelines within designated time limits while upholding safety, sanitation, and public health standards.
- Perform dish room duties for patient meal trays, equipment and utensils.
- Clean, sanitize and maintain work areas according to public health and department guidelines.
- Monitor and accurately record food and equipment temperature.
- Ensure all food safety standards/HACCP regulations are strictly adhered to.
- Able to read, write, communicate, and follow instructions in English.
- Maintain personal hygiene, appearance, and uniform to department policy.
- Follow all new and existing department policies and procedures.
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize daily tasks.
- Ability to multitask; require minimal supervision.
- Must have effective conflict resolution, customer service, and critical thinking skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a strong team environment.
- Report to Food Service Supervisor regarding discrepancies in a prompt manner.
- Required to respectfully interact with patients, staff, and visitors in a courteous manner.
- Contribute to quality improvement initiatives and participate in departmental training and huddle sessions.
- Must have basic computer skills.
Physical Demands
- Must be able to perform repetitive movements, including bending, twisting, reaching, and turning at various heights. Requires the ability to push, pull, grip, and grasp without restrictions.
- Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods throughout shift.
- Able to push and pull carts/trolleys up to 20 lbs or more.
- Be capable to lift 40 lbs or more from floor to waist and 10 lbs from waist to shoulder.
