Job Description:
Position Overview:
Reporting to the Manager of Cardiac Diagnostics, the Cardiac Technician will provide diagnostic testing support for physicians in the diagnosis of cardiac disorders. The Cardiac Technician works collaboratively with the members of the interdisciplinary team in ensuring patient diagnostic procedures are performed within acceptable standards.
Responsibilities include:
Assisting with Stress Echocardiograms, Exercise Stress Tests, Stress Testing of Nuclear Cardiology; prepare the skin and attach electrodes as necessary for excellent quality tracing; perform IV insertions, as necessary; take and monitor blood pressure; monitor patients before, during and after tests. Performing Holter hook-ups and Holter analysis and assessment. Performing standard ECGs; recognize arrhythmias in resting and exercise electrocardiography. Set up, operate and maintain testing equipment; performing minor maintenance adjustment and coordinating repair when necessary; order and restock lab supplies. Providing patient education prepare and distribute report to physicians for interpretation and dictation; respond to emergency situations; and keep accurate record of all tests.
Other:
Training and orientation of new staff
Provide coverage across SHN hospital sites based on departmental need
Assist in special corporate initiatives such as Accreditation, as required
Other duties as assigned
Requirements:
Current registration with the Canadian Society of Cardiology Technologists
Current Basic Cardiac Life Support certification
Clinical and technical experience in Electrocardiography, Holter monitoring, Event recorder monitoring, Stress Testing, Stress E and Blood Pressure Monitoring
Demonstrated advanced arrhythmia interpretation skills.
Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organization skills
Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment, a team player
Experience with electronic medical records systems
Demonstrates values consistent with SHN’s Code of Conduct and is committed to fostering a healthy and positive work environment in accordance with Health & Safety policy and legislation
Demonstrates an understanding of and commitment to SHN's comprehensive safety programs and practices including staff safety, patient safety, and environmental safety
Commitment to ongoing education and training
Utilize protective equipment provided and identify and reports hazards
Demonstrated pattern of good attendance, prioritization and time-management skills
Engages in ethical conduct and strives to understand and appreciate the diversity of our patient/staff population and community
Asset:
1-year clinical experience in a hospital setting
Experience in IV insertion, maintenance, and removal
Experience with electronic medical record systems (EPIC experience preferred)
ACLS
Ability to speak another language is an asset
