1.0 Indigenous Skilled Trades Program Vice-Principal



Superior-Greenstone District School Board is excited to be expanding our Indigenous Skilled Trades Training Program to another community next year which will require a centralized position to be able to operationalize the program’s growing needs and potential. This program integrates skilled trades skill development, workplace preparation, land-based learning, cultural supports, learning and connections, certifications and opportunities to build and further strengthen and develop relationships and partnerships in learning and in life. This role will be based out of Nipigon-Red Rock District High School and will support the implementation, planning, support and monitoring of the Indigenous Skilled Trades Training Programs at the school locally, our newest program next year at Geraldton Composite High School and at Hammarskjold High School in collaboration with Lakehead Public Schools.



Program Development and Oversight: Design and support implementation of the curriculum focused on skilled trades, emphasizing tiny home construction and land-based learning experiences.



Community Engagement: Foster relationships with local First Nation communities to integrate cultural experiences and teachings into the program, ensuring relevance and respect for Indigenous traditions.



Student Support and Mentorship: Provide guidance and mentorship to the school teams, helping them optimize their students’ learning paths and personal development within the skilled trades and beyond.



Certification and Compliance: Ensure that programs incorporate the necessary certifications and adhere to safety and industry standards, facilitating partnerships with relevant organizations.



Resource Management: Oversee the allocation of resources, materials, and tools necessary for hands-on projects, including the construction of tiny homes with the school-based teams in collaboration with partners.



Assessment and Evaluation: Monitor student progress and program effectiveness, utilizing assessments to adapt and improve training methods and outcomes.

This is not an exhaustive list of the potential duties and responsibilities as the program is evolving and is responsive to the student, school, community and partners.

Qualifications

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate self-awareness, an ability to hold oneself accountable, possess superior academic, organizational, interpersonal and communication skills, along with demonstrated leadership and expertise in educational administration with the ability to see things from a system perspective while supporting individual communities. The individual will exhibit a high level of energy, enthusiasm and have the necessary skills to maximize community involvement.

Valid Ontario College of Teachers' Certificate of Qualification in good standing indicating the applicant holds Principal qualifications Part 1 & 2 and completed practicum or a definite plan to obtain same within a reasonable period of time. Applicants without Principal qualifications must submit a written plan, including timelines to obtain Principal qualifications with their application.



Qualifications and experience in the areas of construction and Indigenous education are required



Applications MUST include a resume outlining qualifications, experience and an up-to-date Certificate of Qualification. Applicants must also submit the names of three (3) professional references, one of whom must be a current or most recent immediate supervisor, along with the telephone numbers and email addresses, as well as a written authorization from the applicant permitting the Board to contact these references.
