We currently have a Temporary Full-time opportunity for a Nurse Registration Candidate with the Supervised Practice Experience Partnership (SPEP) at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre (All Sites). Hours of Work: Weekdays: Days, Evenings, Nights; 8 hrs; As per schedule Alternating Weekends; Days, Evenings, Nights; 8 hrs; As per schedule Statutory Holidays required   Summary of Duties   The Supervised Practice Experience Partnership (SPEP) is a program delivered in collaboration with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) and Ontario Health for nurse registration candidates, including Internationally Educated Nurses and nurses returning to practice. Participants in the SPEP program will work under the supervision of a dedicated nurse preceptor for approximately 335 clinical hours. During this time, SPEP participants will be supported by a mentor and work as part of the interprofessional team to demonstrate knowledge, skill, and judgement that is aligned with the CNO Entry to Practice Competencies. SPEP program participants will have an opportunity to engage in high-fidelity simulation, weekly educational in services, and career coaching exercises. Participants in the SPEP program will be hired on contract, during which they will work full-time hours (37.5 hours per week). The scheduling of these hours will be determined based on the preceptor’s schedule and may include day/evening/night and weekend shifts. Each applicant’s clinical experience and area of work interest will be considered for alignment to a Care Program.   Duties & Responsibilities:   Practices under the direct and/or indirect supervision of the Registered Nurse or Registered Practical Nurse preceptor assigned to them on the unit and in a manner consistent with Sunnybrook policies standards, while taking into account the limitations placed on the position. RN preceptors support RN SPEP candidates and RPN candidates may be supported by RNs or RPNs. Works with the preceptor to ensure they have the knowledge, skill and judgment needed to perform all actions/duties, under direct or indirect supervision such as patient assessments, measuring vital signs, administering medications, implementing nursing interventions, assisting with ambulation and activities of daily living (toileting, bathing, feeding), completing documentation of care provided, and other care activities necessary in meeting the patient’s personal needs and comfort Participates as a team member and requests assistance with assigned duties whenever in need Practices all procedures in keeping with infection control policies and the use of universal precautions Demonstrates excellent problem-solving, decision making, and critical thinking skills Demonstrates excellent organizational and time-management skills Encourages patients and provides compassionate person-centred care Maintains confidentiality in accordance with hospital policies and procedures   Qualifications/Skills   The SPEP is available to non-registered RN and RPN applicants who are Internationally Educated Nurses and nurses returning to practice. Applicants are eligible if they have met all their CNO registration requirements except for: Evidence of Practice, or Evidence of Practice and Language Proficiency. Evidence of practice must have expired no more than 5 years before applying to the program. The CNO applicant portal will outline outstanding requirements. The applicant will need to provide their SPEP Eligibility letter from CNO.   General requirements   Current certificate in Basic Cardiac Life Support required Effective interpersonal and communication skills
