Sr. Financial Analyst (SRI) - INOVAIT - Regular Full-time 2024-8741

Oversee the financial aspects of INOVAIT, Canada's image-guided therapy network, operated by Sunnybrook through a $49 million Strategic Innovation Fund (SIF) project funded by the Government of Canada. Project costs are expended by both Sunnybrook and third-party funding recipients.

 

This role requires the incumbent to operate in the capacity of a business partner, analyst, strategic thinker, and planner. Key elements of the role are as follows:

 

  1. FINANCIAL REPORTING AND ANALYSIS
  • Looking holistically at the budget, our agreement with SIF, INOVAIT’s strategic goals and needs, and then formulating proposals for how to structure and implement INOVAIT’s budget
  • Monthly budget vs actuals; variance & trend analysis
  • Complete & submit quarterly claim reports; CF forecast reports; miscellaneous SIF reports; respond to SIF queries
  • Create presentations for the INOVAIT management board
  • Conduct periodic budget reviews, detailed analysis, and financial projections, proactively identifying potential issues/risks and recommending corrective actions/mitigation strategies 

 

  1. SUPERVISION OVER FUNDING RECIPIENTS
  • Monitor and review the financial aspects of recipients' projects, including conducting budget reviews, expenditure verifications, reimbursements, and reporting
  • Ensure Sunnybrook and all funding recipients maintain compliance with SIF's cost principles, reporting requirements, and other policies

 

  1. BUSINESS PARTNERING
  • Communicate tactfully with Sunnybrook scientists, third-party recipients, and government staff on project finances
  • Provide on-going training for recipients on preparing budgets and expenditure reports
  • Assist with events and symposia

 

  1. CONTROLS & AUDIT
  • Look at effectiveness of current internal controls & recommend new ones
  • Assist with process improvement initiatives
  • Implement robust financial tracking systems to allow accurate reporting on expenditures and revenues
  • Coordinate with Sunnybrook's and SIF's auditors as needed to facilitate comprehensive audits of SIF-related financial activities

 

Note that this role requires the incumbent to be on site 3 days a week

 

 

 

Qualifications/Skills


Must haves:

Education

  • Undergraduate degree in Accounting or Finance
  • Postgraduate degree/qualification:
    - Canadian CPA or CPA,CA strongly preferred
    - Alternatively, any of CPA,CMA / MAcc / MBA

Experience

  • Minimum 4 years’ experience in a financial reporting or analysis role, with a focus on providing information for analyses, reporting and decision making purposes
  • Solid skills in variance analysis
  • Advanced skills in MS Excel; must know Outlook, Word, PowerPoint

Personal

  • Exceptional communication (spoken & written English) and interpersonal skills
  • Strong attention to detail and committed to continuous improvement
  • Demonstrated excellence in interactions and collaborations with diverse stakeholders
  • Must dress & present well

 

 

Nice to have:

  • Proficiency in French
  • SAP experience
