Description
Position: Research Assistant in Cardiovascular Imaging
The Cardiovascular Imaging Group in the Schulich Heart Program at Sunnybrook Research Institute is seeking a person for the position of Research Assistant in the area of Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance (CMR) imaging under the direction of Dr. Graham Wright. The group’s research is focussed on improving the diagnosis and assessment of cardiovascular diseases, including ischemic heart disease, heart failure, arrhythmia management, cardiac regenerative medicine and peripheral vascular disease. The imaging technologies revolve around advanced CMR techniques to characterize tissue response in vivo (inflammation, perfusion, etc.) in heart disease, aid image-guided cardiac interventions (e.g. ablations for arrhythmia management) and outcomes monitoring. For this purpose, we have expertise developing novel experimental models of heart disease for therapeutic efficacy studies. We are seeking a Research Assistant, who would lead a project focussed on CMR tissue characterization in ischemic heart disease and complex arrhythmias and contribute to image acquisition and analysis in collaborative projects.
The ideal candidate would have:
- A PhD and/or post-PhD/MD research experience in imaging, physiology, cardiovascular biology, or a similar discipline
- Experience working with imaging technologies such as MRI, X-ray, CT, ultrasound, electro anatomic mapping, and the associated data analysis
- Experience in conceiving, executing and analyzing experiments to evaluate new imaging methods and histological validation to assess their clinical relevance
- A passion for applying their efforts to help improve patient care
- Successful experience in preparing grant applications
- Successful experience in writing up results for publication
- Demonstrated ability to perform at a high level in research-based academic activities
Duties and Responsibilities
- Manage, coordinate and execute projects involving the development and characterization of a large animal cardiac ischemic injury model
- Perform MRI scanning and associated cardiac image analysis (MRI, CT) using in-house or commercial software tools
- Assist in large animal electrophysiology studies
- Assist in the collection of tissue samples for image validation (e.g. viability, inflammation, perfusion)
- Dissemination of experimental results in both written and oral form
- Collaborate with other members of the cardiovascular imaging group
