The Sunnybrook Audiology & Otolaryngology team is seeking an enthusiastic and motivated individual to support a new clinical research initiative in the Dizziness and Balance Clinic. The successful candidate will work directly with the Principal Investigator to assist with participant recruitment, data collection, and survey administration for patients experiencing dizziness and balance difficulties. This study will evaluate outcomes for patients who undergo an innovative audiologist-led vestibular screening program.

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Research Assistant to support this two-year project. The successful candidate will play a key role in participant recruitment, survey administration, data management, and coordination of study activities. This position is part-time (approx. 5 hours per week).

Required Qualifications / Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree (or current enrollment in a graduate or undergraduate program) in Health Sciences, Psychology, Audiology, Neuroscience, or a related field.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with ability to interact compassionately with patients.
  • Experience with data collection, entry, and management; proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel).
  • Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple tasks independently.
  • Prior research experience (survey administration, ethics-approved studies, clinical data collection) is an asset.
  • Interest in audiology, vestibular disorders, and/or patient-centered research is strongly preferred.

 

Responsibilities include (but not limited to):

  • Act as the first point of contact for study participants, providing information about the screening program and study procedures.
  • Assist patients with completing questionnaires (e.g., Dizziness Handicap Inventory, patient experience surveys).
  • Collect and enter study data accurately and securely in compliance with REB requirements.
  • Support preparation of educational materials (handouts, videos, 3D model demonstrations).
  • Assist with scheduling, study documentation, and recruitment follow-up.
  • Help organize dissemination activities, including conference presentations and manuscript preparation.
  • Attend regular team meetings and liaise with the research team, audiologists, and physicians.
