The Physician Assistant (PA) is a hospital employee who bridges the gap between physicians and the hospital and as such has dual responsibilities and reporting. The PA operates under the license of the Primary Supervising Physician, Medical Directives and in verbal discussion with the supervision, and operationally reports to the Patient Care Manager. Working collaboratively with other members of the interprofessional care team, the PA: Collaborates with Neurosurgery, and interprofessional team to support timely and seamless assessment and care planning Participate in patient assessment, rounding, documentation, reviewing imaging, and care planning (inpatient neurosurgical care) Liaise with consulting services & interprofessional team Performs minor procedures Supports daily review of neurosurgery referral for appropriate and timely assessment in RAIN clinic Provides direct patient care in RAIN clinic and as needed within the Neurosurgical Service. This includes a range of patients with intracranial pathologies that need timely assessment in RAIN clinic. Conducts a comprehensive examination to formulate a differential diagnosis, determine what other investigations are required. Order and complete preliminary interpretation of necessary diagnostic testing. Assists in referral to community and speciality services Conducts health promotion and disease prevention activities Performs patient education Supports quality improvement initiatives Responsible for the collection, examination and reporting of Key Performance Indicators     Qualifications/Skills Successful completion of National Certification Exam administered and accredited by Physician Assistant Council of Canada Minimum 1 year experience acute care neurosurgery/ trauma/general surgery preferred Current ACLS & ATLS preferred Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development  Collaborative approach to teaching/learning, conflict management Demonstrated teaching, team-building and leadership skills Complex decision-making skills, excellent interpersonal, oral and written communications skills
