Summary of Duties

 

We have a regular full-time opportunity for an Occupational Therapist in an Acute Care Oncology Program, in surgical oncology, who will be responsible for patient assessment, intervention, and recommendations for follow-up care. The patient population is diverse, including multiple surgical teams, urology, ENT, general surgery (including colorectal and hepato-pancreatic biliary & gastric).  You will collaborate with patients, families and the interprofessional team members to identify and support the patient’s occupational performance goals for care and facilitate a safe and effective discharge process.  You will participate in profession-specific activities of Occupational Therapy, including student education activities in support of the Department of Occupational Science and Occupational, as per Sunnybrook’s full affiliation with the University of Toronto

 

  • You will act as an occupational therapy expert resource for staff, students, and other healthcare providers.  You are expected to maintain and upgrade your knowledge and skills through continuing education and professional development, and to seek opportunities for involvement in practice-based research; engaging in knowledge translation through evidence-based practice; and implementing best practices.  You will practice in accordance with Sunnybrook policies and procedures and the regulatory body (COTO) Standards for Practice.

     

    Qualifications/Skills

    • Registration with the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario required, with Membership in CAOT, OSOT preferred
    • Current MoCA certification an asset
    • Previous clinical experience working with oncology patients preferred
    • Strong cognitive assessment experience required
    • Proven ability to manage responsive behaviours and wean observers preferred
    • Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills required
    • Time management and caseload prioritization skills essential
    • Proven ability to manage multiple tasks and adjust priorities in a fast-paced environment
    • Demonstrated ability to creatively problem-solve based on assessment results
    • Ability to work and contribute effectively to an interprofessional team environment to optimize the patient experience
    • Demonstrated commitment to Person-Centred Care concept and principles
    • Ability to demonstrate reflective practice.
