Join our high-performing ED team and support high quality, efficient emergency care with a focus on the front-of-the-department, working directly with triage in the initiation of early patient assessments and treatment. This is an inaugural ED NP program and will evolve. We are looking for a team member who is interested in efficient, effective, high-quality care in an iterative environment to support this pilot. This position will report to the ED Chief (Oversight) and ED Patient Care Manager (Day-to-Day).

 

Contract Length: Kindly note the contract is a year long from the date of hire. 

 

Summary of Duties:

  • Provide front-of-department/triage-focused clinical services to support wait times and patient experience
  • Deliver safe and high-quality care for patients and families
  • Obtain focused health history
  • Conduct focused physical assessment
  • Formulate a differential diagnosis
  • Determine if further clinical investigations are required
  • Order and complete preliminary interpretation of necessary diagnostic tests
  • Provide early symptom management and treatment
  • The NP may be asked to assist in the following areas outside of triage:
    • Receive referral requests from other physicians/clinics/healthcare providers
    • Assist with quality assurance follow-up for ED patient investigations
    • Optimize in-person to Virtual ED pathways
    • Assess Virtual ED patients
    • Assess lower acuity ED patients, in triage or other areas of the ED
    • Perform diagnostic procedures including ultrasound
    • Collect patient samples (blood, urine, wound, body secretions, swabs)
    • Support interdisciplinary trainee education

 

Qualifications/Skills:

  • Nurse Practitioner (NP) with emergency department experience
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with an interprofessional team
  • Strong problem solving and interpersonal skills
  • Evidence of strong assessment skills and the ability to predict changes in patient status
  • Understanding of processes to plan, implement, and evaluate patient care
  • Commitment to team building and working within a patient-focused care model
  • Exceptional organizational, administrative, and leadership skills
  • Close attention to detail and high level of accuracy
  • Evidence of commitment to self-directed learning
  • Evidence of commitment to quality improvement
  • Experience in a triage role in an emergency department setting
