Summary of Duties: The Lactation Consultant is responsible for providing a supportive and nurturing environment for antenatal and postpartum women. The main functions of the Lactation Consultant include, but are not limited to: identifying and consulting on basic and complex breastfeeding problems and developing appropriate breastfeeding plans. In addition, the Lactation Consultant will be required to: Teach breastfeeding classes to both groups and one on one Provide breastfeeding aides correctly Collaborate with other disciplines to plan care Act as a referral resource for both antenatal and breastfeeding women Attend quarterly Breastfeeding Clinic Meetings Participate in scheduled Journal Club Meetings Participate in extra Breastfeeding Clinic projects Qualifications/Skills IBCLC certificate is mandatory Recent related experience ideally in an outpatient breastfeeding clinic is mandatory Demonstrated evidence of self-directed practice Demonstrated good clinical judgement and problem solving skills Experienced with High Risk Neonates required CPR certification is required
