Job Description:

Applications Operations Services & Quality Engineering (AOSQE) is seeking a talented Senior Software Engineer with deep expertise in Java and API development. As a key member of our high-performing team, you will play a crucial role in implementing cutting-edge processes, tools, and best practices to deliver exceptional application services. Your focus will be on ensuring the stability, reliability, and scalability of our API ecosystem and container-based application infrastructure.

What you will do?

  • Provide ongoing support of Java applications in Production and test environments including responding to Service requests, Incident & Problem analysis, Service restoration and recovery, Security vulnerability remediation, Audits, and reporting as necessary
  • Participate in design, develop, test and debug/trouble-shoot Java applications
  • Interface with other Software Engineers, Business Systems Analysts, and other stakeholders to deliver high quality solutions and maintain a stable application environment
  • Enable stability through proactive monitoring activities, security compliance, change management, troubleshooting issues and conducting root-cause analysis
  • Identify and participate in continuous improvement opportunities, system renewal, stability, upgrade, and Disaster Recovery projects
  • Participate in our on-call rotation to respond to incidents and resolve problems
  • Identify opportunities for continuous improvement and automation and guide on effective ways to implement
  • Educate and coach others on technologies such as API and container management
  • Always operate in strict compliance of security and change management directives

What do you need to succeed?

  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive information technology experience
  • Willing to embrace and learn new technologies
  • Hands-on experience coding in APIs, Java, AWS Cloud, J2EE, Spring Boot, Webservices, React JS, Kafka, and MongoDB and Postgres databases
  • Experience using CI-CD Deployment Pipelines
  • Experience with Docker and Kubernetes including image deployment, Kubernetes pod configuration and management
  • AWS Cloud Certifications would be an asset
  • Experience implementing monitoring, alerting and logging technologies
  • Ability to work collaboratively with others in a team environment in a multi-site organization
  • Strong relationship management and consulting skills
  • Solid written and verbal communication skills
  • Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or equivalent discipline

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors. In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance. Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
