Job Description:
Location: Remote - Toronto or Waterloo Ontario
This is a temporary full-time 12 month - contract/secondment position. The successful candidate will be part of the Sun Life Enterprise Employee Relations team, responsible for conducting investigations in English regarding allegations of harassment, violence, and discrimination involving Sun Life employees and advisors, as assigned and in accordance with relevant legislation. This position reports to the Director of HR Investigations and Restoration.
What will you do?
Lead or co-lead confidential reviews and investigations concerning workplace harassment, discrimination policies, and other potential breaches of the Code of Conduct
Conduct interviews, collect and analyze relevant information, and evaluate credibility across diverse work environments
Prepare comprehensive final investigation reports outlining findings and recommendations
Communicate the results of investigations to appropriate parties
Provide prompt, informed guidance on escalated inquiries related to the Code of Conduct or Company policies on Discrimination and Harassment Prevention
Provide guidance to stakeholders, including business leaders, Human Resource Business Partners, and Employee Relations Consultants, regarding areas of concern to ensure alignment with Sun Life’s Policies and Code of Conduct
Foster and maintain collaborative working relationships with colleagues in Human Resources, Employee Relations, Legal, Compliance, and Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DE&I)
Develop, refine, and advance investigative methodologies, restorative tools, and procedural guidelines
Oversee and execute special employee relations projects, including research and reporting to senior management as needed
What are we looking for?
Demonstrates ethical conduct, objectivity, and maintains an unbiased and neutral approach in workplace investigations
Demonstrates strong self-management by independently prioritizing multiple tasks, tracking deadlines, and ensuring timely resolution of investigations
Works collaboratively and possesses interpersonal skills to provide guidance and build relationships
Has organizational abilities and analytical problem-solving skills with attention to detail and decision-making
Exercises judgment and discretion in handling sensitive employee and company confidential information
Focuses on outcomes and can identify, analyze, and describe trends
Experienced in interactions with senior management
Adapts to changing priorities and timelines as needed
Learns quickly, acts independently, and manages ambiguity in work situations
What do you need to succeed?
A university degree in human resources, social work, industrial relations, law, or criminology
More than seven years of progressive experience in HR matters, with a minimum of two years conducting workplace investigations and working knowledge of employment as well as health and safety legislation
Relevant certification or designation (e.g., AWI-CH, CHRP/CHRL) considered an asset
Proficiency in MS Office applications (including Outlook, Word, and Excel), and familiarity with Workday
Mediation training and/or experience is considered an asset
Experience using case management tracking systems (e.g., HR Acuity) is an asset

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors. In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance. Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
