Job Description:
Reporting to the Director, Extended Health Care (EHC) Pricing and Profitability Management, Group Benefits (GB), this role offers an excellent opportunity to gain exposure to GB pricing and develop a holistic view of profitability drivers for the EHC benefit. Our team interacts with various stakeholders across the GB business, including Finance/Actuarial, Underwriting, Pharma, Product, and Business Development teams, making it a good opportunity to enhance business acumen, gain insights from colleagues with varied expertise and backgrounds and develop interpersonal and communication skills. The ideal candidate is eager to develop GB pricing and underwriting knowledge while demonstrating an interest for the complexities and challenges of the drug and healthcare landscape in Canada. The position provides opportunities to apply analytical skills to real-world business challenges. As part of Sun Life's actuarial rotation program, this role will equip the candidate with a diverse skill set applicable across various areas of the organization.
What will you do?
Develop rates for GB’s EHC product through pricing studies, including exploring innovative ways to improve pricing/underwriting
Partner with the Product, Pharma and Underwriting teams to provide pricing support on various EHC business initiatives and ad-hoc projects
Develop financial projections for monthly and annual business plans
Track key drivers of EHC income, monitor emerging risks, and analyze product profitability to explain financial results to senior management and inform pricing decisions/strategy
Maintain and enhance a dashboard and provide data insights that is shared with senior leaders
Help the team leverage data and technology to streamline our recurring processes and uncover deeper, more actionable insights.
Develop and implement your own value-creation ideas
Opportunities for increasing complexity of actuarial and analytical challenges over time in line with analyst’s skillset
What do you need to succeed?
The successful candidate must meet the following requirements:
Strong technical skills, particularly in Microsoft Excel, SQL, Tableau and Access and an interest in leveraging data and technology to increase productivity and improve insights.
Team player that can work collaboratively across teams.
Strong analytical and problem solving skills that allow for deep actuarial analysis.
Excellent communication skills (written, verbal, and presentation) with the ability to explain complex technical ideas to a non-technical audience.
Excellent project management skills - ability to work autonomously and manage competing priorities.
Attention to detail and critical thinking.
Creative mindset.
Undergraduate degree in actuarial science, mathematics or statistics.
Previous knowledge of group benefits would be an asset.
ASA with 2+ years of full time actuarial experience.
As this position is posted in several locations, we specify that bilingualism (French, English, both oral and written) is required for Quebec only for the frequent interactions with English and French-speaking colleagues or internal partners across Canada or worldwide.
The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors. In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance. Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
