Job Description:

The Group Benefits Financial Reporting & Analysis team is responsible for providing accurate and timely financial information to enable effective management decision-making. Reporting to the Manager, GB Reporting & Analysis, the Financial Analyst will prepare complex financial reports; understands accounting process and provides consolidated reports; identifies control gaps and resulting issues; manages or participates in projects. May have achieved a professional designation.

In this role, your primary responsibility will be to accurately maintain comprehensive internal management reports, which support decision-making. You will also assist in the development of the annual budget, quarterly forecast and variance analysis.

Main Accountabilities:

  • Prepare, distribute comprehensive reporting templates to the business lines for the monthly, quarterly and annual planning processes (Key performance Indicators, Quarterly Financial Review and supporting documents).

  • Analyze information reported by the business units.

  • Consolidate business unit data, explain variance and draft commentaries.

  • Prepare reporting packages presented in finance meetings.

  • Validate Supplementary Financial Information prior to release.

  • Compile rating agency surveys and Year-end Regulatory Reporting.

  • Prepare ad-hoc analysis as required.

Competencies:

  • University degree with major in Accounting or Finance

  • 1-2 years financial analysis/accounting work experience

  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills with the ability to gather, synthesize, organize and report information

  • Strong MS Office and excellent Excel skills

  • Must be detail-oriented, well-organized with good communication skills

  • Ability to multi-task and work under pressure during critical reporting periods

  • As this position is posted in several locations, we specify that bilingualism (French, English, both oral and written) is required for Quebec only for the frequent interactions with English and French-speaking colleagues or internal partners across Canada or worldwide.

Assets:

  • Working knowledge of MS Access

  • Experience in a diverse system environment, including accounting systems such as Oracle and mainframe applications.

  • Knowledge of financial services industry and/or insurance business processes and products

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors. In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance. Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
