Job Description:

Location Toronto/Waterloo - Hybrid

Reporting to the AVP, Executive Compensation, the Equity Compensation Specialist enables the Total Rewards, HR and enterprise strategies by ensuring smooth, accurate and timely operations of Sun Life’s global LTI Program. This includes the end-to-end administration of our global employee equity plans, coordinating internally with various stakeholders of the program and communicating directly with participants.

What will you do?

  • Partnering with key stakeholders in Finance, Legal, Tax, Shareholder Services and HR, and ensuring compliance with plan documents and company policies, administer Sun Life’s global equity compensation program, including:

Coordinating annual tax and legal review of plan documents and grant agreements

Auditing data regularly

Granting annual and off-cycle awards

Applying dividends

Processing redemptions

Making demographic updates

Performing monthly, quarterly and annual activities to support financial and other reporting

Calculating replacement LTI award recommendations

  • Maintain database integrity and ensure accuracy of record-keeping using Shareworks by Morgan Stanley’s platform

  • Deliver LTI Plan training for key stakeholders

  • Provide day-to-day support for participants coordinating closely with HR Business Partners and Business Leaders

  • Create participant communication materials, with a focus on accuracy and the employee experience

  • Continuously improve internal processes and share updates with broader compensation team on best practices

  • Draft Sr. Executive/board-ready materials, working with business partners (e.g., HR, Finance, Client groups) to acquire necessary inputs

  • Support other executive compensation activities (e.g., job evaluation and compensation recommendation) and projects (e.g., incentive plan design, and analysis related to mergers and acquisitions)

What do you need to succeed:

  • University degree with 3 years of experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Strong knowledge of equity compensation practices and theory preferred (completion or progress toward Certified Equity Professional designation is an asset)

  • Experience in leveraging HR Information Systems to administer compensation programs and extract data for analysis; Shareworks and Workday experience an asset

  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills

  • Very strong attention to detail and ability to perform self-audit to ensure data integrity and utmost accuracy at all times

  • Ability to communicate to a wide variety of audiences clearly and concisely at all organizational levels

  • Strong project management and planning skills

  • Proven ability to analyze data to drive actionable and sound decision-making

  • Growth mindset, collaborative style of working and ability to work well in a matrix environment

  • Professionalism and diplomacy pertaining to all areas of discretion and confidentiality

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors. In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance. Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
